Thank you plumbob, However your list may need revising a bit. I, Jamesdean am not on there, and served from 6/22/1977 till 4/12/1991, U.S. Army. I know I don't post much, but am currently recovering from some health issues....Thanks.

Welcome fishergirl,
I'll agree with what has been stated previously, and add one that has worked in many places I have been stationed while in the service. Believe it or not, CLEAR, no color at all. works very well. An other that surprised me is a rainbow trout colored lure, even though their were no trout any where close to the area I was fishing. Good luck on your quest and fishing.

A Lot of folks may not know what the ICW means...Inter Coastal Waterway...Way back when, when I was stationed at Ft. Eustis in Virginia, we used to run "the ditch",(ICW) quite a bit...Never really got to fish it much though. Good Luck.

Been a bunch of years since I was their. If you have access to enter Ft. Hood, you can go out to the recreation area on Belton Lake and rent a boat by 1/2 or full day.

Yes minnows work, However so will a wide variety of other baits. I quit using minnows a long time ago. I use Bobby Garlands Stinger-tail shad and my own hand ties. Colors of jigs depend on water clarity

These are floats made from African Porcupine quills. They can be bought on eBay. When you get them the points are extremely sharp. So caution is a must until dulled. I have made a few of them. To make the eye, I used a cut down paperclip and then used a fly-tiers bobbin and rotary vise to attach. Coat thread with Sally Hanson's hard as nails. For the rubber holder a piece of surgical tubing cut to 1/8" works well. It can be rigged as a stationary float by running your line through the rubber piece and then the eyelet at one end, or as a slip float with a bobber stop, then a small bead, the only the bottom eyelet. As far as casting, I found it worked very well.

Yes sir, I live in the back of a mobile home lot on the down hill side of a hill. Has taken this Old Man 2 days to dig out after these two ripped through here like they did. Left me a total of a foot of it to move. Only did two tracks, but I can get out now....did I say, I don’t like it either....

After dad caught his first fish throw back or not, he would rub his lure, jig or what ever he was using on the sides of the fish transferring some of the slime to the lure. Worked pretty good and don't remember him coming home fishless ever. Trick is getting that first one...

Very nice jig, and write up. Now I'll be spending more money as I'll need the eyes. I have everything else. For sure would be something that the crappie around here haven't seen yet, and most times that's a plus.

mwh710, I am a bit north of down that way there, up in Springfield, Mo. I can't tell you anything about the lake or the fishing there as I don't get down that way, but 1, welcome to the site, and 2, when you get here and get settled in and get to looking for a boat, go on Facebook Market place. Got some good deals on there on boats most times...Good luck and welcome again.
