I started making a smaller version of these for ice fishing, so I made some bigger ones for crappie fishing this spring. Works great for vertical jigging and twitching it along under a slip bobber. We were getting quite a bit of action on these last week, especially since the weather hasn't been all that great yet. Having the hook eye behind the head keeps it in a more natural position when it is sitting still. The head is made from glass beads.

They look great. I bet they'll catch a bunch.

Look neat do you and would you share a picture of before you put the eyes on?

I see extra wire sticking out on both ends.
Just curious

The bottom one should help hold the plastic/rubber bodies on.

Is that the purpose?

The wire allows for the head to be tied on in front of the hook eye, and I figured if I was going to attach a wire, I might as well make a keeper out of the other end.

Nice job, I have been looking for a jig like that for below a slip bobber. Is there enough weight to let it hang horizontally?

Yes, that's the whole point. The glass bead eyes are actually fairly heavy, so they counterbalance the tail. You could use metal beads or lead dumbbell eyes to get ever more weight.

Do they rattle by chance?

No, but I suppose if I tied the beads a little looser, it might.

This is the before and after of attaching the wire. I put a drop of super glue on at this point, it doesn't go anywhere after that.
