The one lake producing is Billy Chinook. No problem launching, go to Perry south and go up the Metolious arm until you get to housing area and you will boat at the line where the cold water from the river meets the hot water from the lake… the fish size up to14 inches. Kokes will be there for another 2 weeks before they move up to spawn
Or they turn red…
Will be there with my Boston Whaler
Till they move up. Also like your pen name, very special.

Steve, welcome to fishing paradise. I moved from Portland 20 years ago, this is the most productive and fun place to live as a fisherman. Yes the previous information is all accurate, one place I want you to keep in mind is lake Billy Chinook. It is my go place all year araund. The winter when all other lakes are not accesible, Billy is there with a variety of fish… bull trout up to 30+ inches, trout, brown trout , kokes, bass
Just wanted to let you know, also I am looking for partner to go out, too old to go alone… welcome to paradise.

Scratch east lake, it is low and still frozen as of today… Paulina is clear but the public boat ramp is not usable, but the lodge is open $10.00 to launch. Talked to fisherman and he got limit on kokes and two big browns. Also went to Crane and it is ok but limited catches.
Cultus no body there and it is berely open some snow on the road, dock has been put in. Good luck

Sorry to report that the fishing trip to Billy was so so, considering that we have nothing to show, but we did released 3 under limit(24) and we lost or better explained 3 more to line braking. We better use a heavier line next time. Next report next week. A wonderful day of fishing, oh and we got 7 kokes in between all the action.

Best time for the big bulls. It is cold and they are close to the surface. I will try to send latest catch. I will be at the lake tomorrow looking for a fun day.

Your best bet is lake Billy Chinook, the Metolious arm closes in November til March but both the Deschutes arm and Ocheco is open all year and have very good option on brown, trout, kokes and my favorite Bull trout. Kokes jiggin and the other trolling long line in 30 feet..
Fish are close to surface as the water temperature is around40.
Good luck

I had at least 6 boats, all kinds and styles and used all for fishing, both rivers, ocean and little and big lakes. For the last 20 years have loved my Boston Whaler in all conditions, lakes rivers, shallow, deep, big waves. Fits in garage and can travel well. Very quiet and also stays level all the time. It had a 90 hp with trolling motor, changed to 60HP Efi for the high lakes and do away with the trolling motor, and chose the 17 footer as the best to deal with wind and bad water. I am on my 80 and can handle it very well. Had it detail two times and looks like new, the engine has over 3000 hours and can do 30 mph. It may be more that you want to spend, but in the long term it has been a pleasure to own. I do full service in the winter when the shop is not busy.
