Wow I knew all you stagers would come thru! I really appreciate the advice and comments from everyone! I will continue to do some research and hopefully pull the trigger soon , so as to be ready when all this Colorado ice is gone. I too haven’t posted in quite awhile and really have no good reason why?My grandpa used to tell me “if you don’t have anything people want, or need to hear, don’t say it! Sound wisdom, sometimes, but l’m sure glad you all spoke up!

I know this question has been asked previously but I couldn’t find any of those posts. I’m interested in purchasing a peddle powered kayak and was wondering if anyone out there has some suggestions on makes or models. I prefer to buy one that has proven quality and durability so am willing to pay more for that than save a few bucks. I would primarily be using it for fresh water lakes in Colorado. Any advice would be much appreciated

I’ve had great luck using the Double Surgeons knot when adding tippit to my tapered leaders. It’s fast and easy and I personally have never had strength problems with it.

Thanks for the advice! When you say good size shiner, do you think something 4 or 5 inches or quite a bit bigger? I’ll be going back soon!

Any tips on location,
baits for pike in Eleven mile res?

Well I fish 11-mile and have been there several times this season, but apparently I’m not the guy who can help you with advice. Last trip I was at Howbert’s point and in about 8’ of water, I saw at least 5 different pike through the hole, 2 of which looked to me like they were in the 40” range. I tried everything in the book, but they would just hover around my bait, plastic shad minnows, rattle jig baits, some great vertical rappalas, and some spoons, they just slowly moved off, hooked a couple nice trout, so it wasn’t a skunk! Kept them and ate em fresh!!! I’ll be interested if someone else can help us with how to entice those pike? Sorry I wasn’t more help

WD40 does work as an attractant, and for the record it’s been deemed food safe by the FDA, most restaurant owners use it on they’re equipment.

I use one ice fishing and love it, I’ve landed a ten pound rainbow with it and had no issues. You might be onto something for crappies. It’s definitely just a straight down operation, or at least I’ve never tried to cast with mine, but from your boat, or kayak and paired with the right rod it should work just fine? If you don’t have any electronics you might have to go old school and do a count down, I use mine with a vexilar sonar flasher. Keep us posted

Hey welcome to the forum from a fellow coloradoan, I’m fishing the frozen pond as I write this. What high school do you attend? Keep your grades up, before you get in the bass boat! Wish I had applied myself when I was in school, advice from an old geezer, not too old, but old enough to be your dad, enough of my lecture, keep your line tight, and get your friends out there with you, you’ll have more fun!

Just got back from the hard water this afternoon, I agree with the folks on the new rechargeable battery augers, I too have the 8” Ion, it’s been hands down the best auger I’ve ever owned! I also use the Vexilar FLX 12, and it’s increased my success on the ice by at least 50% unfortunately most of these items are quite pricey if your on a tight budget. Might find good used online with some research. Of course there is a lot of good gear out there other than I mentioned, keep getting as much information as you can. Hope this helps a little, good luck!

Wow if you get out there this winter post some pictures! I figured you’d have some experience with that. I’m getting tired of catching and eating trout, I love em but would also love to catch some walleye, crappie, or perch. There are some here in Colorado but nothing like your talking about. What a small world, I too have a lifelong hunting, fishing buddy in Loveland. Keep us all posted, if I find a place to fish for walleye here I’ll reach out and pick your brain.

Hey Jeff, welcome from Colorado, user name lawman, retired LE, this is a great forum for all kinds of fishing expertise and other interesting “tidbits”😁, I recently posted an ice fishing picture and thought someone from your neck of the woods might appreciate it. I’ve always wanted to give that try in your area! Good to have you aboard, tight lines!

Funny? As for me, makes me want to give up playing golf, or at least quit drinking beer on the course and to pay more attention to where I’m peeing, oh yeah, and carry more cash. I don’t think my debt card will work, I might also rethink being such a cheapskate!

The problem is my phone is not zoomed in at all! The local domestic deer herd is quite brave unfortunately. Some have been aggressive, I’ve thought seriously about telling my local game warden it was self defense.

Wow, you might be a detective yourself, we could use a 3rd 😉 I won’t police the humor I promise, it’s starting to become my favorite part of the forum.
