Mornin' James................Myself and an old buddy fish Shasta pretty much every Thursday....we're old farts and our thing is to just troll around draggin' crank baits mostly......we do ok, but mostly little guys..... we've tried down-rigging a couple times and have caught a few decent bass....no trout yet......where abouts on the lake do you launch......maybe we'll see you up there sometime..............thanks for your update............ I've never written anything on the "Fishing Stage" before, but follow it regularly.....I live in Redding (CA)---Pretty much grew up here, but have been 'around'....5 years in Alaska---talk about some amazing fishin' !!!! I was a helicopter mechanic and spent lots of time in the 'bush', where you couldn't get there any other way than helicopter.....Had some great times....but, back to California....I'm 73, retired electrical contractor...I mainly fish Shasta Lake these days with on old high school buddy....We do what I call "old man fishin'"---troll the perimeter of the lake using mostly crank baits....winter's are usually real slow due to the cold weather and the fish "suspending"....spring and summer pick up considerably as the water temp. increases....We went out yesterday and hooked 11, (bass) -- the week before, 19.....Shasta's a big, beautiful lake with lots of fish----bass, trout, crappie, cats, even sturgeon....lots of tourists, so there are alot of folks out there "playin'"..... the bass fishin' is fantastic and if you live in the area, you should definitely check it out..... The Sacramento River runs thru Redding too and altho I don't fish it much, it's an incredible river for trout, steelhead and salmon....striped bass too...... I also lived in Trinity County for many years too (Next one over from Shasta Co. --Redding--)----I lived right on the Trinity River for years and that's another amazing river for steelhead, salmon and big brown trout.... Over-all, the "North State" is full of fishin' spots.......... Good luck to all of you out there and tight lines !!!!

I fillet 'em, bone side and skin side---dredge in flour, with salt, pepper and garlic powder---fry in small amount of oil and butter combo.....serve with lemon....simple and excellent in my opinion....
