Spirit, according to my Perterson guide the closest thing I can come up with is a Ross's Goose, it probably got separated from its flock, and traveling with the Canadians for safety?

coxj131, you will need something like these, to prevent line twist when you are trolling. I have used them trolling for trout, steelhead and salmon. Watch your trolling speed that can cause line twisting also!

Spiritof27, that fish was made famous when in was put into the song" My Little Grass shack in Kealekekua Hawaii" not sure about eating state fish , when our grandfather said no , he meant it, and we had much better fishes to eat. Also when they got hooked and on shore they would oink like a pig, last part of it name pua'a, pig !

bapabear, if you just so happen to paint a lure like that fish I would be honored to pay you for it! I've caught many of this fish in Hawaii with my grandfather, and everyone were release, if we did not eat any fish we were told to release them. They have some mean teeth, chomp on corals and love sea urchins, their skin is so tuff you can't cut with a knife, you have to use a pair of dikes to cut their skin, then pull it off. We have several different trigger fishes that do get larger.

Sdcmaui, I'm pretty sure that is the state fish of Hawaii, but I don't understand why you tried to eat it! I can just imagine what you would have done if it were a Puffer fish.
Reef TRIGGER FISH
Hawaiian name! HUMUHUMU NUKUNUKU APUA'A

hdhunter54, I have never fished Shields lake, but I can tell you that our DWR guys are putting some beautiful trout in our water systems, Rainbows, German Browns, and also some Tiger trout? I mainly fish only Thomas Spoons , in 1/4 Oz and small , Kastmasters work well too, I only target the German Browns, fish this year up to 17 to 20 inches, our DWR website tells you when the lakes, ponds, and rivers are being stocked and the type of trout that in them , they are waiting for you.?

Hi Dblmup, well now looks like you're the one that doing all the catching. I started fishing Leesylvania Park when I first moved here, but all from the bank, but again I need to learn the tides! Heres is my email onofish@msn.com so we can get cell#. Love to meet up and learn how to fish here, I've been using plastics frogs for Snakeheads with a 3 to 4 inch wire leader, at night livebait on a floater, got a 4foot Gar at Ft Belvoir. Take care and hope to see you out by the waters edge. Kalei

Good morning 2nd75thranger, just relaxing after taking my granddaughter to school. My daughter has business meetings on Tuesdays so I get to drive the two girls to school, here in west Springfield. I'm living with my daughter now going on five years , moved in from the west coast after I lost my wife to cancer. Fishing here is all new to me , I don't keep fish from the Potomac River, tried to but seen to many worms in them so I catch and release most . On the Snakeheads, they are strong fighters for fresh water fish, and surprisingly excellent for the table, I've gotten a few and we all ate them even our two girls, but we all love sea food very much. I have been fishing nights for the Snakeheads at Burke lake. That's nice you got grandsons to go fishing with. All my grandsons and great grandsons are on the west coast or not close to us. Took one five year old to Locust Shade for trout fishing and he got his limit on the first day, now he has move away.just waiting for stocking of Cook pond and Locust shade to get some fresh trout. Here is my email so I can get my cell # to you, onofish@msn.com. when I'm not on the water I could be driving new Ford cars and trucks with my young son for TB, in Chantilly, delivering to customers and picking up new also from other dealerships. When I'm off I like to carve Hawaiian Makau hooks for all the boys, and friends, the I also collect vintage fishing reels, Daiwa's silver series, Luxor's, Penns and a few others. I won't buy today's new reels, they are all pretty much made in China, even the new Penns! All my reels are all vintage reels that I have repaired and serviced, a good friend in NC got me started and so here I am now with about 130 to 140 reels. Couple thing over here I really need to learn more or have a better tide app, would love to surf fish with someone local that knows the area. Most of my reel collection are for Surf fishing with big Spinning reels , got two Shimano Baitrunner reels for live bait fish or finicky fish like the Snakeheads. Yes about Fountain head lake and the same at Burke for boating, they are not user friendly. Anyway I'll be waiting to meet up with you, I don't care if I don't catch fish, does not bother me, I just love the outdoors, nature and all the things around me. I have caught my share of fish in my life time already, I do miss my Salmon fishing from Oregon. Today I would rather meet a young kid that likes to fish and give him one of my carved hooks. Take care be safe until we meet at the waters edge. Kalei

Hi, 2nd75thranger I have fish there a few times got some nice LMB, but my main targets are Snakeheads. I like to fish Burke lake most of the time at night also on base at Ft. BELVOIR,! My problem is I have not figured out the tide in the Potomac yet, been told the best times are during high tide. Let me know when you're out there I'll meet up and learn something from you , got a big Blue F250 ! Tight lines.
