Your local Independent tackle store is your best bet. That means shopping at a Mom and Pop store that is willing to help you in all aspects of your purchase. They will be competitive, give to reasons for their particular recommendations, and be help you after the purchase. They want your repeat business so they will probably after 2 or 3 visits remember your name.

FYI: the 4601 is a Left-handed reel. The 4600 is a right-handed reel. At one time or another left-handed reels were much less common. Today there are numerous models available.

I concur with Captjohn: for what you're going to be fishing [for] the majority of the time, a 1500 to 2500 sized reel would be ideal. Either 6# or 8# Stren Original or Trilene XL (not XT) momfilament line would be very accomodting.

If you go for the sunglasses , I suggest the Wiley X brand. If you know what line (brand and weight) he uses: large 2400 to 3000 yard spools would show thoughtfullness. Any of thg these plus a gift card would really be appreciated!

You might want to look into the Quantum KVD Tour Crankbait series of rods. They come in various lengths and actions and are designed for what you're doing. A few of them also work extremely well for spinnerbaits.

A phenomenal picture! When you return from a day of fishing no matter what or how many [fish] you caught, it is easy to say that you limited out with a setting and picture like that.

Buyer Beware! Holds true here. If buying in a kit you should only buy name brand 3 to 6 packs (crankbaits) or Yum and/or Yamamoto (Senkos & ,such) or other name brand kits (,softbaits). You willl save money and frustration over the long run.

Snakeheads are an invassive species; they are about as useful as Asian Carp. Meaning they are very detrimental to our sports fisheries and other beneficial waterlife.

I can't argue with the SK square Bill's, but I would certainly have a couple of Spro's Little John's. In the Spring, Spring & Fire Craw color other times Spooky Nasty works most of the year. SPRO has this bait in different running depths. Good luck, ask 50 fishermen their choice and your going to get almost 50 DC different "favorites" .

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I go out on the lake, it's not necessarily about catching fish but the entire experience. I can go back 180 yards to the back of cove and see a 40 foot waterfall crashing of the ledge and hillside. Not Niagara Falls but just as beautiful in it's own setting. And yes I do enjoy catching fish at the same time!

One more thing I should have mentioned: proper line. Some lines work better with spinning reels than with baitcasters and vice versa. An example is Berkley Trilene XL is for spinning reels. Berkley XT is engineered for baitcasters. XL is more supple, limp, smoother casting. XT is tougher, stronger , etc. Read their respective boxes for more specifics. The same applies to P-line CX and CXX.

There are a multitude of reasons that can happen on a Spinning reel: the first starts with improper spooling a.c 2nd overfilling. The second could be line twist caused by fishing without a quality swivel, the lure is dragging weeds or debris and is spinning on retrieve, and third line "set" when you haven't used the reel for a few weeks or more. All of these can be remedied; easiest thing is search you tube for the remedies. The most popular way to remove twist is to drag the line behind gh ed boat at trolling speed for 2 or 3 minutes. Note: do so without any terminal tackle on the line and after the 3 minutes put the motor in neutral and reel in the line. Most reels have anti twist rollers as "twist busters". They reduce but do not entirely eliminate line twist. Hope this helps.

Other than a wire cutter pliers for your first aid kit, the smallest Swiss Army Knife you can buy (around 11.99) is indispensable, much better than finger nail clippers and the scissors can cut braid.
