Which brick and mortar store is the best place to purchase any fishing equipment?

So I purchased a penn fierce II rod and reel combo off of amazon as well as some suffix 832 line, the rod and reel came damaged and the line was the incorrect lb test so I have to send them both back, I was really looking forward to trying to fish in this smaller pond in front of my apartments but now I can't sadly. I think I would rather just hit a brick and mortar and purchase these things and know that they're good to go off rip, is dicks any good? I also know that there's a bass pro shops not a long ways from me, I'm in the Tampa area for reference, thank you in advance.

Dicks and bass pro are both good, depending on the Dicks, you may find a guy working there that fishes locally. Bass pro is mostly salt water fishing with some fresh water gear. Walmart can also have a petty decent selection.

I was checking out walmart earlier but I honestly just had no idea what was what, I want to get a freshwater rod and reel set as well as a saltwater rod and reel but I'm not exactly sure what sets are going to be the most reliable on a relative budget. My buddy pointed me to the penn set on amazon but he's not really able to go to the brick and mortar places because we work different schedules and live a decent distance away sadly, I think there's a dicks that's pretty close so I'll have to check it out, thank you!

Not in my experience. Their prices are high and their selection is minimal. Try Southeastern if you're sure you don't want to order online. I find Amazon to be pretty crummy for fishing gear. Tackledirect.com has proven reliable and competitively-priced for me in the past.

Yeah when I started digging for reviews on amazon it seemed like there were a ton of issues with receiving damaged product, they just threw it in a bit box and called it a day so when I received mine the box was pretty mangled and the eyeholes were all jacked up sadly. I'll check out both of those, thanks a ton.

If you have a Big 5 store where you live they have a fairly good selection.
Check Walmart on line, if you find something that you want you can order it and have it sent to the store for pickup. That way you can check it out before accepting it. Shipping is free that way.
We bought a fishing reel for our grandson that way. We showed the ad to Turners Sporting Goods but they said that they couldn't match the price.

If you don't want to order on line from Amazon, give Cabella's a try - they've got years and years of experience shipping fishing gear, they have a pretty good selection of stuff and their prices are competitive. I've purchased a lot of stuff from them and I've never had a problem. And if you have questions, ask us. We'll point you in the right direction.

Most places, you can find some (or most) of the following; here are at least five brick and mortars that I would go to, but some may not be in your area ! 1- Cabela's/2- Bass Pro Shops/3- Sportsman's Warehouse (none in Florida)/
4- Gander Mountain/5- Big Five ! There are also myriad small bait and tackle shops, plus Walmart and K-Mart (if there's still one open in your area) !

as far as brick and mortor its hard to beat Bass pro or Cabela's or Walmart I think Tackle direct maybe the best online offering I just hate waiting three or four days for the things I order so I usually go to Bass Pro I like to see and feel what I buy if possible.

Try your local tackle shop , their usually wealth of knowledge and can’t be beat for local knowledge ! Many times prices are very fair and you will be set up for success !
Especially if your a neophyte angler , big help gaining knowledge takes guess work out of getting properly outfitted !

Your local Independent tackle store is your best bet. That means shopping at a Mom and Pop store that is willing to help you in all aspects of your purchase. They will be competitive, give to reasons for their particular recommendations, and be help you after the purchase. They want your repeat business so they will probably after 2 or 3 visits remember your name.

Along with fishing, playing guitar is another favorite hobby. I can say from experience Amazon is terrible for anything breakable. Made that mistake a couple times. Never again. I tend to hit the local Walmart and Meijer for my gear. Don't know if you have a Dunham's or MC Sports near you, but I've seen some decent stuff there too. Sorry, I can't say if their prices compare well though.
