Don't get mad but just be honest.
Do you trout fisherman ever just get so jelly at the saltwater fly fisherman? Far Far bigger fish, bigger gear. Bigger brags. Bigger pics.

Well... you can catch just about any species on a fly, so no I don't get jelly. I like the challenge of fooling the fish in the river, but I'll take the saltwater action when I can get it.

I do both...the river lends peace and solitude while quietly stalking. The ocean is more of an in the mix of it all feeling. More fish species and always the possibility of a shark!

I totally understand . I go to the beach 3-4 times a week. I always bring a rod but not always use it. The solace helps.

If most trout guys had any idea how many brutal skunked hours (or days) went into each one of those saltwater hero shots they'd probably feel different

I am lucky to live in a place that you can fish for trout in the morning and then stripers at the ocean in the evening. New England is pretty awesome.

No. I'd be happier to catch a 20" brook trout than a 4 foot muskie.
It's relative. I'd rather shoot a 12 point deer than a spike elk, even though the elk is bigger.

Eh I don't fish for the big ones. I'm all about the views and experience. Plus I'll take cool mountain air over hot/humid air any day.

Not here to brag. Just here for fish. My trout in PA are perfectly fine, and if I run into a situation where I fish for stripers in Mass then I'd also be happy. Grass is never greener

Hey Kryp, have you tried top water fishing first thing in the morning, or as near to sunset as the light will allow you to see that hook removal from a fish? My bigger trout have been at both of these times and for this area anything in that 20" - 28" range is a good days catch. Sure they get caught occasionally while jigging or popping cork, but experience here is get up and out on the water before anyone else. That's when the big ones are searching the top for a snack.

HaHa Hahaha HaHaHa....oh...I can't stop laughing at your ludicrous ask..... NO, NOT EVER !!!
Foremost in my answer, is the inane delusion that bigger fish and more expensive gear somehow enhances one's experience...you know... makes one feel a bit more invincible and "manly".
I feel sad for those who play that game. They will never actually be satisfied, since at this very moment, as we are discussing this, somebody came up with "the next big thing", the bigger, faster boat, the prettier lure, the cooler glasses, hell....an EVEN MORE expensive cooler for your beer ! And you thought you topped out with the $400 new Yeti ! And that record fish.... just got beat.
The cut-to-the-chase-answer is....no,...no jealousy.....I have never even taken a picture of a fish I've caught....glory ain't why I fish.
Besides, when was bonefish and tarpon on anybody's menu ?... not.
Single shot gunner only gets one shot! Better make it count sporty!
I only fish for wild trout. Don’t particularly care for hatchery fish. Too easy to fool. Nothing prettier than a wild southern Appalachian Brook Trout. Since they can’t be bred in hatcheries the only ones you’ll find will be wild native fish. Of course wild browns and rainbows are fun too. Don’t see a need to go to the salt for fishing excitement.

That is one of the places the saying 1 shot 1 kill comes from.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I go out on the lake, it's not necessarily about catching fish but the entire experience. I can go back 180 yards to the back of cove and see a 40 foot waterfall crashing of the ledge and hillside. Not Niagara Falls but just as beautiful in it's own setting. And yes I do enjoy catching fish at the same time!
