For eating. I've caught them by the bucketful in years past, but just not catching any this year.

Has anyone in western washington been catching any crawdads? I've tried a couple different lakes that I know have them but so far, I'm unsuccessful. Thanks

Thanks everyone. Eastern Oz, that was the first thing I did when I got home. I filleted it and threw it in the frying pan, as I had never eaten one. I'll say that they are very tasty. Crappie beware! Any more crappie catching tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated and put to use. Today it's the King salmon that had better beware. Here comes the Hootervillain! Have a nice day to all!

I'm new to this site and would like to show you a picture of my very first crappie. I've been fishing in Washington state since shortly after I could walk. I've caught a lot of different fish species, both saltwater and fresh. I mainly fish for trout regularly. This year I decided in was going to try targeting panfish. I've been doing fairly well catching perch and a few bluegill, but the crappie weren't giving it up. Until right before dark, 2 nights ago. I was trolling back to the boat launch with a rapala floating jointed brook trout, and caught this crappie in the photo. I missed another one a few minutes later. It's always cool adding another species to my tackle box. Looking at all of the pictures posted on here is great. Keep your lines tight gentlemen and fish until you die. That's how you die happy.

I'm a newbie to this site. I currently live in Everett, but am from Darrington. I fish all over and for anything that swims. Anybody know some good bluegill lakes around Snohomish or skagit county? Just now getting into the panfishing. And what about crawdads?

Sorry, but I have been trout fishing in washington since I was 3 years old(52 now) and I have never seen anyone use 2 snap swivels. You dont even need a leader really. Just put 6 or 8 lb test on your reel. Tie a snap swivels on and attach it to your rooster tail. I put a removable split shot on the line about 18 inches above my snap swivels to aid in casting and to get a little more depth during retrieve. Not always. Works great for me in lakes or river. I always catch trout. Always.
