I think catfish are best from 3-6 lbs. Make nice size fillets. Not my preferred fish to eat but that size is the mildest.

We're creatures of habit so sure we prefer using our own stuff. There's also that factor of breaking someone else's gear. But you might like their stuff Ben. Try it on, it's not underwear!

Been out there pursuing stocked trout too. Got 4 very nice fish on first run. Need to return and give it another try. Good to get out and connect with mother nature.

Vacuum sealers are the way to go. Portion just what you want, clean them up nice, dry them. Label the package with fish type and date.
In my opinion freezing fillets in water damages the meat. Much better to remove the moisture before freezing to keep that texture as it should be.

Welcome to the Forum, John, I was wondering, thank you for clearing that up. I'm not sure but I think they are a little hard to find in the Wintertime.

On the beach but not every beach. This time of year they are deep and a lot of work. Speaking of fake, that might be a good bait line to start up🤔

What a pitiful story JustMike. Sorry for your suffering but I admire your persistence. If you were in my area I would see to providing you some private lessons. Not many thrills top fighting a big fish.
Good luck on your future endeavors!

Nice area. Hey mosquitos have to feed too.
I noticed there were a couple of concerns about the cows. They are not lost, they are free range grazing. Not as safe as some areas with rock slips and the wild, but most survive just fine out there for the grazing season.

I use ultra light rigs all the time. Pflueger is a brand I have used for many years. The Trion GX-7 with the PFGXSP 50 1UL rod is just a super combination. I can cast this little outfit all day and not be fatigued. I use 4 lb line that works great for crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, perch, small mouth bass, rainbow trout, browns and even walley. I have even gotten a 26 lb flathead cat to shore with it, though I wouldn't recommend that. The reel is designed for 2-6 lb test. I have made thousands of casts and caught many hundreds of fish with them. They're just a delight to fish with and inexpensive.

YES. I have frozen whole Salmon in water in the skin. Just gutted. It’s like Encino Man the Movie...about a man being frozen in ice.

No freezer burn. Water melts off and meat is like it was only frozen overnight... years later. It’s better than anything if you have space in freezer to do it.

I've used a vacuum sealer for several years now. It takes much less room than in water and I've had some for 3 years that still taste fine. Takes a little more time but worth the effort.
