Most people are very selective about the type of fish they catch and keep (including bait).
Although I have been accustomed to doing this at times , I have been reacquainted with
the boyhood like approach of just going fishing , having fun , and "keeping all you catch !

Warm welcome to the forum r. That was the way I grew up too. I kinda still do that " within limits"! Mostly because I love to eat what I catch and I don't get out often enough to damage the population. Just a question please sir..... Where are you? If you would be so kind as to put your location in your profile all of us will be grateful as there seems to be a great deal of curiousosity about the fishing in all sections of the country. And, OK, two questions...... What kinds of fish do you go after? Pictures are always welcome too!

I couldn't get rid of ALL I catch. I keep 3 to 5 fish sometimes, but sometimes I catch 20 to 30 fish. Specially comin up on this time of year. Not that I'll get out any time soon though.

Right now I am in south Mississippi and I can rig up for almost anything(from the boat to the shore or bank).
The next few weeks I'll be using mostly a blcck bug jig with wax worms. It's a killer for for whatever is hungry
in both lakes and ponds. Will try to post some pictures if successful this weekend, trying to get my garden in Good Friday.

And how I wish I could take y'all fishin. The smallies are on a good bite out at our lake and I can't get out. One of the guys I know was just out Sat and they caught 23, up tp 2 1/2 lbs. That's a big smallie for our lake. Cought on baby brush hogs in watermelon and red flake on a 4 ought hook with a 1/8 oz bullet wait fishin off the rocky points and rocky banks. The largies will be comin on strong any time now as well as the crappie. Get out there and get em guys.

If you want to catch fish and freeze it, just buy it from the store, it will notv taste the same. I only keep it if I'm going to eat it that night.

I would advise you check your local regulations. No sense in giving money away

Er, have you tried the vacuum food saver? I have frozen my share and really can not tell the difference. For me its all in the prep of the fish before cooking it.

I agree PB. I have frozen plenty of fish and all we've eaten OR given away the people have just loved it. "Prep it right and freeze it tight" That is what I say.

After I filet my fish and clean them up good. I freeze them in a baggie of water.

YES. I have frozen whole Salmon in water in the skin. Just gutted. It’s like Encino Man the Movie...about a man being frozen in ice.

No freezer burn. Water melts off and meat is like it was only frozen overnight... years later. It’s better than anything if you have space in freezer to do it.

My best friend that got me into fishing here in N C was an old timer that taught me about freezing just the way you mention Jeremy. However he is fishing from the clouds now and times have changed with these vacuum bags. Seal it properly and it's less work, taste the same as in water, and a whole lot easier to store.
