my old favorite was walleye, my new favorite is pike
uncooked shrimp is a lot cleaner than chicken liver, and aside from crawdads, catfish is about the only fish that will bite them. secure the rod, or keep a loose drag just in case

I'm in a6's corner. I've tried everything, and keep coming back to mono. like bassinjimmy i tried braid, but i came back to mono. its tough, predictable, and i like the stretch for hook sets. the pros use what their sponsor wants them to use, and i think most use braid because that's what's 'in' right now. braid is expensive, frays easily, and needs to be masked with a leader using mono, or floro. why not just use mono, or floro? your leader is what comes in contact with any obstructions, and the sensitivity has to be passed through your leader. for salt water, or catfishing maybe, but for bass i prefer mono...just saying
without question, or hesitation it would be a green pumpkin tube. tubes imitate everything bass love to eat, and work under any weather, or water condition and any season of the year

I never use wire for bass. I like to use the lightest mono I can. Usually 6-8 lb test.
me too fishrmans. i use mono most of the time in 6 or 8#
wire leaders are not very good for bass unless like vcrusco said you are using reaction baits, and to me 30# anything is defeating the purpose of the leader attached to braided line. it is a pain to re tie constantly, but i just look at it as one of those things you have to do in order to maybe catch a trophy bass
i grew up fishing farm ponds in kentucky. 60 years later my pb largemouth still came from a pond. as long as you were respectful, and closed the gates most owners didn't mind. fortunately i was able to find a pond in pa to take my kids there when they were young, catching big bluegill hooked them for life and we still fish together and your right sterba43 everyone should fish a pond
if your on the eastern side of the country try the great lakes, the st. lawrence, finger lakes in ny, or lake champlain...about as close to canada as you can get. i went to the st. lawrence this year, didnt have big numbers this year, but had a number of big fish this year
NY wants you to remove any you catch in the St. Lawrence river. I have never eaten one, and probably never will, but have had lots of baits destroyed by them.
