This was my first time fishing Bull Bay.
Came in from the south access by that stilt house..
I haven't been shown the way in from placida want to show me?
Sunday I put my boat back in the water after 2 weeks on the trailer.
I was getting her serviced and detailed.
I don't normally fish on the weekends.
But I really needed a day on the water.
This morning I was fishing with 2 friends Bill and CJ.
We launched at the placida ramp. Our first
Spot was fishing the out going tide at Gasprailla pass into the Gulf.
We caught squirrel fish, robbin fish, Lady fish, lizard fish, Spanish mackerel and lane snapper. CJ hooked a spotted Eagle Ray and couldn't stop it.
Our second stop was Bull Bay.
At stop #2 we were greated buy puffer fish
So thick you only got 2 casts with your swim bait before it was ruined.
We moved until we we're on the trout.
And we landed over 50 trout before we were run off our spot by freeloading Dolphin. We added mangrove snapper, Blue Crab and and gag grouper to our species list.
Great day.
You might try salt away.
After you get it loose rub the whole zipper with paraffin or candle Wax .
Thanks Chuck.
I'm land locked. Till I get home.
The boat is being detailed and serviced this week. While I'm camping.
Not familiar with it.
But any advice on shoreline fishing in fort DeSoto Park on Tamp Bay would be great.
I'm camping there until Friday.
Went out to turtle bay early Friday morning with a friend first stop we were in the fish.
Randy is former guide in Kentucky.
He was throwing white swim baits.
Which were my favorite/ go to bait until lately.
He did catch the first fish.
But my new go to bait soon caught up and passed the swim bait.
I'm now fishing a DOA clear with silver sparkle 1/2 Oz shrimp under a slide on Styrofoam float.
We ended up with 73 fish mostly trout
A few Jack's and lady fish and 1 lizard fish.
We left at noon.
Here's a picture of the snook my friend Steve caught while we were trolling Gold rattle traps in the canal behind our house
I've re-spooled my rods many times.
The new braids are easy to put on.
I tie an overhand loop knot and make a slip knot for a spinning reel and put it on the spool in the direction that the slip knot tightens as you reel.
But I always put one wrap of electrical tape on the spool first.
The braid is so slippery that it can slip on the spool when the line gets low or when a big fish is on.
Any decent tackle shop can spool your reel but you may need to bring your own tape.
Good catch and Way to pay attention.
I brought my own gear on that boat and he told me no treble hooks so I cut a Hook off.
I've fished the the same boat the deckhand is a Great Guy he gets no $ from the boat I always tip 20% and if you clean your own catch you are taking 50% of his work and money.
Personally I always have my catch filleted by deck hand's.
Unless you need the carcuses for fertilizer keeping the remains in the general water system where it came from is best for the ecosystem.
And there's no chance of introducing evasive species or unwanted creatures where they don't normally inhabit.
That's just me.
We used artificial baits a rattling suspending jerk bait caught all the big ones.
But the 1/2 Oz DOA artificial shrimp( clear with silver sparkle)under a weighted Styrofoam popin Cork ( the cheap ones) caught more fish three to one.
With Pro cure sent.
Talk to the guys at fishing Frank's in Port Charlotte.
They have a finger on what's biting in Charlotte harbor, the Peace River,Mayakka River and freshwater. And the tackle, rigging and bait for your Trip.
I'd start in the water then I go to the grocery store. Just saying.
