Saw, how far up the Napa River do you fish. I had the Shelby out tracking at Sears Point Saturday. Might have to hang my pole out the window.šŸ˜Š

Did an over-nighter up in the Truckee/Tahoe area. Caught my now "normal" amount of trout. You see em. First photo is Martis Creek Lake, south of Truckee. I was using the rod in the bottom photo (my wife's) with 2 pound fluoro on a Nasci reel with a barbless 1/4 oz copper Johnson Silver Minnow and a root beer colored grub - a big one slammed it and I fought it for a bit, but it broke off. Made me feel like I might be back in the game at least. Martis Creek is home to some big browns and lahonton cutthroats. Strictly artificial/barbless, C&R for all trout. Saw them rising in the late morning. Saw one jump pretty far out, had to be at least a 2 footer - a great beast. Spectacular! The other lake is Webber, north of Truckee - the wind was howling Not a good time there. My first trip to either. I'll be going back to Martis Creek with my tube. Perfect small lake for that. + positively GREAT access for a tube or a kayak - but no boat ramp - no motors allowed. That's what the sign said - not sure if that includes electrics?

All this about an hour or so from my house.

Spirit, did you by any chance catch the KCRA news this morning on Folsom Lake Chinook?
Sterile Chinook were planted in Folsom some time ago. People are catching 8-10ā€ Chinook in Folsom which means somehow they successfully spawned in the American River. Fish and Game checked it out and it turns out these are not the stockers!
Kinda cool!
Got a boat? šŸ˜Š

Dang, every one of those is spot on. I donā€™t post often, respond once in a while, but I follow it everyday.
Iā€™m still a wanna be. Someday Iā€™ll get a line in the water again.
Spirit is a badass and has helped me with gear purchase. His lawn is off limits. I keep seeing Sawā€™s posts and think to myself, I gotta find time. Itā€™s an hour or less from my house!
Iā€™ll get there yet, gotta finish painting the house before the furniture shows up. Always an excuse huh!
My wife is more than supportive with me getting out and relaxing with a line in the water.
I guess with a life of being driven itā€™s hard to stop and relax once you retire.
Keep up the ā€œgood worksā€ guys, I stay entertained everyday!

Fins is fun, especially during the summer when they have bands on the weekend.
Pismo Beach Fish and Chips is really good.
Quarterdeck in Arroyo Grande is a good locals hang out. Good food, great drinks, huge portions.
In the village of Arroyo Grande, Rooster Creek is solid (one of our favorites)

Spirit, have you been back up to the South Fork? I havenā€™t had a line in the water yet... been too busy on the house. Iā€™ll get there yet!

Hey Spirit, nice that you got down to Pismo/Grover.
Having recently moved from there I could have given you some insights, not that I fished much from there.

Fishing from surf or at the pier is really hit and miss. I think Iā€™ve only seen a few people catch fish surf fishing.
Very flat beach which I assume extends out into the surf. Spectacular beaches though.
ā€œVirgilsā€ does pretty good regularly on his boat out of Morro.
Hope you had a good time cuz itā€™s a beautiful area with lots to do.

Well now, thatā€™s the Spirit! It appears Paul likes catching fish better than fishing! The American River is open up at Coloma if you need company. Congrats Spirit and Saw on another great day.

Ok, my turn. Iā€™m a wanna be fisherman and live in Folsom Ca. Iā€™m retired and have been wanting to get back to fishing like my brother showed me 50+ years ago. Always been trout, lake and stream.
Spirit and I have connected offline only, not in person, but he is a wealth of information and just a cool guy in general.
So far all of my time in retirement has been remodeling my home but I swear Iā€™m gunna get out there. Season opened April 1st!
If anyone wants to entertain me heading out, Iā€™m in. But fair warning, Iā€™m fifty years green.
Greg
