Have fished a couple of back Bay locations in the Shrewsbury and Neversink river and have not yet gotten any bass. Went out yesterday on charter boat and fished back of Raritan Bay very successfully, But all fish seem to be staged away from the beaches. 6 guys on boat had approximately 50 bass And about 75% of them were keepers the other 25% were all slot fish. Fish fished with 5 inch white or green paddle tails on on 3 oz jig heads. 100% feeding on bottom.

Great info! thanks for the report. Action is sure to start picking up in the upcoming month. This is going to be a great year!

Thx. I guess I am too late. Can you catch and release during that period

Sorry I wrote the wrong size limits. It’s 28” to less than 35” not 28”to less than 38”.
You can see how confusing this can get when regs from 3 different states come into play for the same waters. I hope this helps you some.

Actually, as it turns out, Pennsylvania regs are different than NJ regs. I suggest you read up on them. In both NJ and Pa you need to register with National Saltwater Anglers Registry to fish for Stripers, shad, and other migratory species in the tidal waters of the Delaware river which I think is everywhere south of the Calhoun street bridge in Trenton. There is a fee for that unless you live in NJ. You must have it And your PA fishing license. Also in both NJ and PA, you must use a non offset (inline) circle hook when fishing natural bait alive or dead. According PA regs, there is no closed season on stripers north of the Calhoun street bridge with a one fish limit and fish must be 28” to less than 38”. South of the Calhoun street bridge to the Pa/Del state line from April 1 to May 31 you can keep two fish From 21” to less than 24”. June 1 through December 31 it goes back to one fish 28” to less than 38”. As I mentioned earlier the regs are different in NJ and Delaware so it’s well worth your time to do the research. As far as spots to fish from land is concerned, I suggest using satellite view on google maps and you may find plenty of areas where you can access the river.

The striped bass season will be closed in the Delaware April 1 through June 1. Bloodworms is a great bait right now.

I don't mean this as a joke but are the wind mills even built yet or are they still in the planning stage??

It is the heavy use of sonar being used currently in surveying for the windmills that is killing the whales and dolphins. Those involved in the project are maintaining that there is no evidence of that. It is important to consider that sonar leaves no marks or scars. The effects sonar has on these mammals has been proven. And the number of dead whales and dolphins in the areas of the surveying IS evidence.

Here in south Jersey there are some wind mills operating in backbays behind Atlantic City. They have been there for years. The project in question now is in the planning, surveying stage for offshore windmills. This is moving forward with no apparent concern for what the people of New Jersey want. Very few details have been shared with the public here. Details such as exactly how many windmills are they erecting, what is the monetary cost of this project, what environmental effects would be resulting from the construction process and from the daily operation of the windmills once built? How will this impact the fragile ecosystem that is the ocean floor, such as aquatic vegetation, mollusks, crustaceans? What impact will this have on our fishing industries, shipping, boating, cruises. How will this affect the shore towns that rely heavily on tourism, will people from other states still flock to our beaches to gaze at a long line of windmills. There are many rumors circulating concerning these issues many of which may well be factual. Some wrong information is too ridiculous and I believe purposely put out to take credibility away from those opposed to the project and the reasons for their opposition.

Whales and Dolphins use echolocation or sonar, as a way of finding baitfish and grouping them into bait balls which they then feed on. The mammals also use this sonar to communicate and to navigate. The heavy use of sonar such as that being used to survey for the massive wind farm planned for the New Jersey coastline, confuses these mammals and makes them lose their bearings and they swim ashore. Many scientists believe that the sonar bombarding the ocean floor and the mammals delicate and very complex hearing as well, is excruciatingly painful and they beach themselves to escape it. So far over twenty whales and I’m not sure how many dolphins have beaches and died since this surveying has been happening and in the same areas. A moratorium on the surveying has been called for yet it continues as does the whale and dolphin deaths. It is also expected that much more damage to the ecosystem is eminent as this wind farm project continues to move forward. It will surely change the face of our beautiful shoreline and Oceanside communities.

Anything happening with stripers at island beach or LBI? Toms River I heard there were some taken. Any info would be appreciated!

Some keepers being caught in backbays and rivers. This is pre spawn activity. They heading up the rivers to spawn. There has been a lot of peanut bunker spotted in back also which is great news this time of year. I expect this spring to be a good one.

So what kind of waders do you all recommend 🤔

I’ve use Frogg Toggs Anura 2 stocking foot waders. Very comfortable, don’t weigh much, easy to move around in, nice pockets. Great price overall best bang for your buck!

Good job. You can also remind the Karen and others that it is illegal to harass hunters and fishermen. This is true in many States. Check your state's regs. You bought a license that allows you to persue your hobby legally and that license protects your rights as a sportsman. Remind those that interfere with your rights that they are breaking the law and you have the right to call law enforcement.

Fishon!

That’s the best response you can give them, especially if you’re holding your phone when you tell them they’re breaking the law by harassing you. The temptation is to tell them to go s—t in their hat, but that’s really what they want you to do. Show them your phone, tell them you’re calling warden, and fish on bro! Tight lines.

Glad to have you aboard Cap’n. There are several others from our area on this forum. I have lived on LBI a few times (Surf City, Beach Haven, Ship Bottom). I fish there often from beach and boat. Looking forward to comparing notes and sharing info.

Sorry I thought you were in Surf City, NJ.
Welcome aboard anyway , will still be sharing info just the same.

Thanks for having me!

Hello all just an FYI I used to sell Compass360 rain gear/waders and I think they are the best value out there. They are about 30% less expensive than Frogg Togs and made in the same plant with the same materials.

Wow, thanks for sharing that Tbone. I’ll definitely keep these in mind.
