I am new to striper fishing in the Delaware river. Does anybody know any areas I should seek out. I will probably start with bait but hope to do a little fly fishing when I get the lay of the land.
The striped bass season will be closed in the Delaware April 1 through June 1. Bloodworms is a great bait right now.

Thx. I guess I am too late. Can you catch and release during that period

Secret hot spot is near the bridges in Trenton. Bordentown boat ramp is also good. Check PA regs. You can keep a 24”.

When I was living in Delaware me and my buddy went to Liberty park in Bayonne NJ. And they were catching some big ones there. It's been so long that I can't remember what month it was but the fish were huge. One guy walked out with one that he was holding shoulder high and the tail was dragging the ground. They were snagging the perch and they were also huge and they let the perch flounder around and that attracted the strippers. They bite and don't let go. They put the weight on the bottom of the line and put the treble hook a foot above that. I don't know if it is still legal to snag or not though.

Actually, as it turns out, Pennsylvania regs are different than NJ regs. I suggest you read up on them. In both NJ and Pa you need to register with National Saltwater Anglers Registry to fish for Stripers, shad, and other migratory species in the tidal waters of the Delaware river which I think is everywhere south of the Calhoun street bridge in Trenton. There is a fee for that unless you live in NJ. You must have it And your PA fishing license. Also in both NJ and PA, you must use a non offset (inline) circle hook when fishing natural bait alive or dead. According PA regs, there is no closed season on stripers north of the Calhoun street bridge with a one fish limit and fish must be 28” to less than 38”. South of the Calhoun street bridge to the Pa/Del state line from April 1 to May 31 you can keep two fish From 21” to less than 24”. June 1 through December 31 it goes back to one fish 28” to less than 38”. As I mentioned earlier the regs are different in NJ and Delaware so it’s well worth your time to do the research. As far as spots to fish from land is concerned, I suggest using satellite view on google maps and you may find plenty of areas where you can access the river.

Sorry I wrote the wrong size limits. It’s 28” to less than 35” not 28”to less than 38”.
You can see how confusing this can get when regs from 3 different states come into play for the same waters. I hope this helps you some.
It’s open on the Pennsylvania side.
