Hit the ramp about 5:15 on a beautiful partly cloudy Sunday afternoon. Air temp was 70 with a 5 to 10 knot southwest wind and the water temp ranged from 56 to 59. Got some good info at the ramp from a nice fella on his way out. Said they were catching them in close off the Gold Coast trolling bandits 35-40ft back. Since his report and my plan pretty much lined up I was feeling confident. We started trolling just after Edgewater beach 1.6-1.8 MPH headed dead west in 16-26 ft of water. The graph was showing plenty of life so why not, I figured. Ran 2 perfect 10’s, 2 Bandits, a Flicker Minnow and a Husky Jerk. Took about 45 min to get our first on a Perfect 10 40ft set back. 20 min later we got our second fish on a Bandit 35 ft set back. 15 min later we got another on the Husky Jerk set back 50. Five minutes after that we had our forth on a flicker minnow 35ft back. Then we hit a lul and it wasn’t until we turned north mid way thru our turn around that we got out 5th fish on a Bandit set back 40ft. 20 min later we got our sixth fish on the Husky Jerk set back 50ft. Trolled back east till 8:40 then called it a day. We fished from 16-36ft of water and there were plenty of fish. The key was to keep your lures in that 10-15 ft running depths. We caught on purple, green, yellow, blue/red,& blue/green. Basically color didn’t matter. That’s why I like to keep a variety out even if I catch a lot on one particular color one day. All fish caught where post spawn males. Beautiful evening on Lake Erie couldn’t ask for more!!

Kyle with our first one.

Lake like glass planners running smooth.

The kind of sunset that soothes your soul.

It only warmed your heart at first but still worth a look.

Kyle took 2 both about 24”. These ranged 23&1/2” to 21” and 4.14 to 2.8 lbs.

By the time 1969 rolled around I had finished college, half a masters degree and most of my three year tour with the Army.

And I still want a glint in my father’s eye! I recognized it all. Not bad for a whipper snapper. My last truck with hand crank windows went to the junk yard in 2020.

If you were nice about it like it seems you where you absolutely did the right thing. Especially if it upset him. That means deep down he knew you were right. Hopefully your comment will bother him enough that he does keep a better eye on her. Much better a bruised ego then a hurt, lost or worse grandchild. He’d never forgive himself for that.

I too am only interested in fishing reports from Pt. Aransas. I am new to this site and it appears I HAVE waisted my money as it has been impossible for me to get info for this area, plus Corpus Christi, Tx

Site is free so you may have been scammed.

Not that specific of a site. World wide.

Hey J nice eyes ! I have been using an electric knife for years on all kinds of fish. Even crappie, much quicker! Did the video show the zip method for the spine bones.? Very slick!

Don’t think I’ve seen that I’ll have to look it up. Thanks!

Last year I took my son out for Wisconsin's free fishing weekend and ended up with 50 crappies, 4 walleye and a large pike. I had them all fileted in about 25 to 30 minutes with my Rapala knife. I don't know if an electric knife would cut much time off that. Plus when I go camping in upper Michigan, usually 10 days to 2 weeks, there is no electricity where I camp.

I do not have your skills!!! You are a human electric knife. No need to upgrade if you can fillet like that!!!

They are what I've always used and I'm not sure if I want to learn new ways. You know, the old dog and new tricks thing.

Totally understand that! At last years N.E. Meet and Greet Whitey had one and he was filleting 3 fish to my one at least. They are really easy to use. He showed me the technique and I was whipping them out right away pretty easy to use.
