I have Trout fished in NJ for close to fifty years, I have never been approached by an official to see my license. This year I turned 70 and now I fish for free. Always fished with a license and always followed the rules.

Although I have posted this query once or twice, I'm hoping that the 'third time's the charm' and I get a response !

Some members have mentioned
having had side effects from the
COVID shot; my question is this -
what type of side effects did you
endure, and was it from the
Pfizer or the Moderna
vaccine ? Just trying to gather
as much info as possible before trying to get an appointment
for it ! Thanks !

I got both shots by Moderna. No effects after first shot. Second shot a slight headache.

I have a Garmin striker 4 if I have the name right. I use it mostly as a depth finder to maneuver upstream and know when to get the prop up and use the trolling motor. Temp gauge helps. The learning curve for the fish guessing is still over my head. I find myself more relaxed with it off. Anyone who wants to use it go for it. Doesn’t bother me. The sport for me is what I want to get out of it. The sport for a tech loaded boat is what that fisherman wants. We always ask what did you catch it on. The tech doesn’t put it in the boat. Keep having fun!!

I agree, I have a first-generation fish finder and it has saved my prop. I have a simple 14 foot deep V with a 55lb electric on the back. I like knowing the depth and the temperature. I fish four lakes and we fish where we have learned where the fish may be.

I always tip in a restaurant since a large part of their salary is on tips. If the service is good 20% if not so good 10%. A guide is making a good payday upfront. Two days and no fish, maybe a token of $10 or $20, not 20% of the total two-day guide trip. If you paid $250 per day a 20% tip would be another $100.

Growing up I always caught bass, but I enjoyed catching other species more. I never understood the obsession some people have with catching bass? They literally buy boats and gear just to catch one species and it seems pretty boring to me. I’ve always loved catching “trash fish” such as alligator gar, sharks, bowfin, and catfish, and even had people talk down to me for doing so??? I don’t get it, considering bass only get so big it’s not like they put up a hard fight or anything? I’ve caught many bass over 7lbs and the feeling of that is nothing compared to catching a huge alligator gar or bull shark. Am I missing something? It seems to be the same with speckled trout too. I had a guy scold me riding by on his bike for saying I caught a catfish... and of course he mentioned “why not any trout”??? Trout are so small and blue catfish taste way better in my opinion anyways. My only guess is that catching bass and trout is a lot “easier” in the sense of not having to get your hands dirty or work to catch bait before hand, and in turn people look down upon people who do so. Any ideas as to why this is?

I’m on my second yr. of fishing seriously or actually caring about technique and gear.

I like to use a swivel clip so I can easily change which lures without having to clip the line and re tie. Why is it I rarely ever see people use swivels, but instead tie on the lures. Is there an advantage to tying over swivel clipping?

I use a quality snap swivel mainly because at my age it takes too long for me to tie on a new lure. When I was younger I would put a barrel swivel on about 16" from the tag end to stop line twist. I fish with three rods in my boat and keep one with no snap swivel for lures with O rings. I have not seen a difference in my catch rate with or without them, but I may be a better fisherman now than when I was young.
Hand warmers, the new electronic warmers are the bomb. They are rechargeable with device style plugs, they have ports that will let them be used to charge your phones as backup batteries. They last several hours on the lowest setting which gets plenty hot. I turn them on when my hands get cold on the higher setting so they heat up quicker, then turn them down to the lowest setting. They warm up the whole [pocket to where it warms up the backs of your hands too. I use thinner gloves and just warm them up too which helps them work better.

Best investment you will ever make, Amazon carries dozens, most made by a few manufacturers and rebranded, go by reviews, and some of the cheaper ones are exactly the same as the more expensive ones. I keep a couple by my chair and warm my hands and feet with them so that it keeps the batteries cycled so they last longer...

Also, if you have a backup battery for charging phones they can be used on these to extend your usage through a longer day. I got a 20Ah one that will charge these about six times or so. I'll charge one while using the other so I don't run them out and have to wait for charging them up.
Thanks for the information, I was still thinking of the old lighter fluid hand warmers.
