Learn what a slip bobber is and how to rig it. With it you could fish the bottom of the ocean if your reel will hold enough line. When you reel in your bait, the bobber will be within a couple feet or inches, your choice, from your bobber and hang well below your rod tip.

Watched a video of this. Take a couple strips of duct tape fastened inside out. Place in each hand above and below ferrule and twist. Comes part easily. What you
lack otherwise is grip friction.

Regardless of whether left or right handed, the casting motion is rod straight forward, straight back. There are instances when a side cast motion is called for but not normally. Thing of swinging a whip Ike a mul skinner. But with more smoothness and less snap. The line is controlled in the off hand and motion is imparted with the strong rod hand. Humb on top of grip, a forward motion to the ten o’clock position and the backward motion to the Two o’clock position. When the rod takes the line back, there is a slight upward movement to get the line up into the air.its with enough force to let it straighten out up and behind. In the forward movement it is allowed to let the line and its leader fly straighten out over the target area. When it’s time to lay the fly on the water, you just et it low and drop gently rather than start another back cast movement. It is a skill of timing. Best practiced without a hook and over a large grassy area.

You might learn how to tie a small loop knot so that the fly swings Unimpaired by a Tight knot. And Cabelas and other such stores sells a small block with a slot for the line to guide it into a small eye along with a built in magnet to hold the eye in the proper configuration. I’ve got one to try as I have the same problem but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

Like any fishing style, if what your doing isn’t working there either aren’t any fish, they aren’t feeding or your using the wrong bait or technique. Change something up.

Just don’t keep reeling if you are not bringing in the fish, parifularly with a spinning reel. All you are doing is putting coils in your line by twisting it.

I do have a couple and they do take up less space when collapsed which is handy when space is at a premium. But they are more cheaply made that other multi pieced rods that come apart in sections. I’ve not had any problems with hard casts making them more difficult to collapse. But for best fishing experience, choose a rod with as few sections to put together as you can and if you have the room steer clear of telescoping rods. My steelhead spinning and level wind rods are nice two piece rods running 9’ and I just live with the lengths because they are the better rod.

Decades ago I Was trolling above McNary Dam on the Columbia about a quarter mile above the dam. Best steel heading is right along the shore. I was either pulling a plug or a slip bobber and jig with my electric going slow and quiet. As I approached a big outcropping of rock, a good place to shore fish right next to the rocks I came upon a shore fisherman. I was swinging out to be away from him but at extreme casting distance, actually outside where he was bobber fishing. But he thought I was encroaching. He reeled in and made a Herculean Cast That just made it over my boat. Forgive me for thinking he was over reacting, cause I cut his line.

I understand that some in boats and on shore don’t want to share. And I’m sorry that many here have had bad experiences just like I did. But there often are two sides of the story. May I suggest that we all choose to be considerate of others and a bit less inclined to react. Regardless of the provocation. Life is too short.

I’m sure missing getting a line wet this year. I finish my last of six three day chemo treatments on Thursday and then start Radiation treatments. We’ve got some time scheduled in Bend in Sept and almost a week in West Yellowstone in mid October and I’ll be taking my fly fishing gear. I sure hope I feel like wetting a line. Both places are great fly fishing destinations but my one issue is not having much energy so I’ll have to fish close to my car. If someone beats me to a hole easy to access, I’ll either drive some place else or take a break until they move on. I really just want to drown a fly.

They are made from spring steel and non tarnishing so if they aren’t mishapened and not rusty they should be fine. If they bend or won’t close to a normal shape after you change a hook they should be replaced. You could test them by anchoring he hook n a vice and pulling on the lure. If they hold their shape they should be strong enough.

For steelhead fishing under a slip bobber we use the knots on a tube that come with the knots. Basically a nail knot tied with braided line on a plastic tube. If you use the pre tied nail knots just slide one on the main line, slide the knot off the upper side of the main line, pull it tight and discard the tube. But there is also a bunch of small beads that will slide on the main line but won’t pass the knot. Just tie a nail knot, slide on a bead, slide on the slip bobber and then another bead or not, your preference. Then tie on your bait, lure, hook, swivel, whatever. Trim the tag ends off the nail knot, very important. You should have no issues with the nail knot as it is reeled into the spool and be able to set the depth at whatever depth you wish. Fly line backing is about the right size if you are tying your own stopper knot. But the little packets of knots and beads sure are convenient.

What you likely pictured was the air bladder, not the stomach or other guts. Any other organ would have no air in it. In any case just wasting after filleting is all that is needed. Cold water is fine. The bacteria in fish is not harmful to humans after cooking anyway.

You can create a decent wadding shoe out of any shoe you choose by gluing on a felt insole like they use in winter shoe packs. A fresh tube of shoe goo works well for an adhesive.

I’ve mounted electrics on a 10’ Livingston and an 18’ big boat with pretty powerful main motors and always preferred the electric on the bow. Either tiller controlled or remote controlled. I’ve used them for trolling lake water and up or down stream on big river water for steelhead. The electric was never in the way and provided better directional control Especially in keeping the bow into the wind rather constantly trying to turn the boat into the wind . Most electrics just aren’t that powerful depending on boat size, length. They also don’t weigh much and balance isn’t an issue it’s the battery remotely located.
