I'm fairly new to this sport. I'm in the Garden City area of S.C.
Water temp is 56° is there any fish out there that I can catch now or do I need to let the water warm up some more?

You should go into Garden City Bait and Tackle and ask them. I'm in Maryland and love Surf Fishing.
I'm sure something is out there waiting for you. It's been kind of dead around here. Water up here is 48f and slowly ridding. Maybe you already read this if not check it out. I remember watching a video a while back. I think it was by the salt strong people fishing in S.C. They were catching allot of reds using fiddler crabs. Which they also caught by them.

White Perch is at the bottom, this site has allot of information on different fish. Doesn't necessarily apply to only Maryland.

I see some good suggestions here, I used to live in Matawan. Another place you can consider is Manasquan inlet. Where it meets the Atlantic. It's been many many years things change.

I don't believe there is one, but many individual states do example Texas. You didn't have a location filled out in your profile. I was going to check for you.

I'm a big paddletail fan, I have them from 3-5 inches. This is one of my favorite rigs to put them on In the spring and fall. It catches more than just flounders.

Well it happened, I went fishing today and was skunked not even a nibble.
Looking forward to vacation when I know I'll be able to catch Somthing.

Don't feel bad, I'm just up north from you. I went out yesterday to three different locations and a few different spots in each. I tried shrimp 'dead', gulp live crab natural 2" and blood worms. Not to mention a couple lures with fishbites 'shrimp'. The water was about 43f so I worked them extra slow and I tried other speeds as well. Bottom line, not a single bite, hey it happens.

I have a bad heart but if I have to crawl I’ll never quit the activity of fishing. The Sport that I have loved since I was 7 years old when I caught my first bass. I can’t walk very far without having to sit down. I do have a transport chair and my wife gets me as close to the water as she safely can. Sometimes I’m at the waters edge other times I can be 20 feet from the edge of the Lake. I love to bass fish and throw top water lures and crankbaits. I also “Wacky” Rig, Texas Rig and Carolina Rig. My Question to all of You is that I need advice on a Rod that can throw my lures as far as possible. Your advice is appreciated.

I hear ya, I'm only 59, I have a few disk they fused together with cadavers bones. My major arteries from my heart down to my legs are synthetic tubing. I got brave today and walked out onto the jetty stones, not to the end, about 2 tenths of the way. I'll never do that again. Had issues when casting. Went to a couple other spots, no bites. But neither did anyone else. But like u I was determined to keep going. :) Hang in there buddy...

So where is it Doc?

Why can't they make location a mandatory field. If they put in a false one and receive inaccurate information to help them. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Yup! It happened to me. I pulled my 10hp motor out of the shed to do my Spring maintenance and get it ready for a new season. But when I pulled off the hood, there it was staring me in the face --- a mouse nest filling every nook and crany around the engine. I expected the worst and found it. They had chewed many of the electrical wires; some of them all the way through. I have neither the know-how or the patience so I am taking it in for repair by a professional. At this time in the season I expect it to be "laid up" for a couple of weeks! Bah! Any ideas as to how to keep this from happening again? And yes, I have cats, but they cannot get into the shed during the winter.

You can consider a couple things, store it next to an outlet get a decent electric mouse repellent. Buy cheap steel wool and fill any place they can get in, they hate it.

Looking forward to the stripers running! Any news from anyone?

I'm down in Ocean City a MD. Last year they started migrating from the Chesapeake Bay to head up north somewhere around early May. Lol, it can't come soon enough, hours seem like days waiting for them.

Definitely have to check that. I've got to deal with 4 states at least.

I can't remember all the ones for Maryland, let alone 3 more states. I hope it helps you out. It will first go by your GPS location, but I think you could add the others manually.

I came across a free app on Google Play store Fishing Rules. I created a free account and it pulled my GPS location. It then gave a listing of all fish in red and black lettering. I noticed the fish names in red had restrictions. Then I went thru the list selected the common fish in my area and marked as favorites.

Then opened the filter and changed it to only show my favorites. You can always add/remove fish. I then bounced that information against the Department of Natural Resources in Maryland, they were all correct, even the new Striper's regulations posted yesterday. The app has other features and is also available for Apple products.

Notes from the app.

Fish Rules App includes saltwater fishing regulations for Federal and State waters from Maine to Texas, including: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North / South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and The Bahamas.
