Are they old rubber worms?
Sounds like the fish don't like the smell, taste or feel.
We can stop carping about it.
Lots of confusion here on species.
Invasive carp, should be removed from the water. The native carp should be returned.

Most of them are speared by divers.
Serve them with a lobster cream sauce, and you will get lucky every time. LOL
Wait. . . I know what your are referring to now. That fresh water pond on the left headed West. the mention of gator's clued me.
The blue hole I know about is about 3 miles west between islands, in the Bay. It is/was a lobster hotel. I guess the blue hole reference is just a diver thing.

Can't keep clams or sand fleas on the hook in the surf, so adapt a steel head trick, we use here. put the bait in a bait bag. If you are using sand fleas, lightly crush a few to put scent in the water.
Best tasting? Without question Hog Snapper.
With Butterfish close behind.
A nice slab of broiled hog snapper, smothered in a lobster cream sauce was the best date bait I ever used.

Best tasting? By far Hog Snapper.
And I'm about to add Butterfish to my best tasting list.
A nice thick slab of broiled hog snapper, topped with a lobster cream sauce, was the best date bait, I ever used. Add a bottle of chilled lite white wine. Bingo.

I only have had it once, as sushi. However, next trip to the Atlantic coast, I'm definitely targeting it. And some won't make it to the car.
I can't imagine why it is so relatively unknown.
