Both, depends if I am alone or not, alone from shore, cause at my age if anything bad happens I don't wanna be headed to England till it runs out of gas.

Cool, I never fished that side of Fl. How far do you have to go to get red snapper, pompano? Louisiana you gotta go 20 miles or so to get to blue clear water.

ishing from a pier or jetty and if you can cast out pretty good, get a sabiki rig or even better learn how to tie 1 yourself. Toss that out and catch your own bait, that the bigger fish are eating right then. Or, cast a net out and catch a bunch of bait if you can.

I had the pleasure of talking to C. Ray hunt, the inventer of the "deep Vee" hull, among other things. http://www.rayhuntdesign.com/production.php I was on the crew that built Surf Hunter 25s, Including the first few with diesel engines. I asked him why boats can't be made like a duck ? He smiled and told me "Thats easy if you want to go as slow as a duck, the trick is going faster. But, ducks have the basics perfect. They are beamy, have high bows, Deep Vees, and are heavy for their size, and they get out of the water when it's too rough" :) Lesson learned, when it gets rough slow down or get out of the water !!! Lots of smallish bass boats have Hunt designed hulls, the little famous chainsawed Boston Whaler 13 , the Whaler 15 center console (a very good lake and sheltered inshore bass boat), Almost all Grady Whites for a bigger boat. You can walk across almost any river or port in new england jumping from GW to a Whaler or other Hunt design and not get yer feet wet any summer weekend.

[quote=bottomcoon]I have 5 fractured vertebrae in my lower back & 1 in my neck. A boat ride on rough water can be a killer. I've ridden in some deep V Lund's on rough water on Canada's Rainey & Lake of the Woods & they do a good job of

smoothing out the ride. I've been searching for a high wall deep V for several years & last year I sprang for the tracker Targa 19V. It's actually 19 ft 11 inches & 108 inches wide. The 47 gallon fuel tank is up toward the front in the bottom of the boat.
White capping water is a smooth ride. I haven't been in anything yet over 2 ft but so far I'm extremely happy with my toy.
Happy except when I trailer down the road. Boat & trailer weights 5000 lbs so my fuel mileage drops to 12 mpg average. I looked at a lot of boats & manufacturers but always came back to this boat. It came with a 24 volt trolling motor & i wanted to upgrade to a 36 volt. The folks at the Bass Pro shop, including the service manager, weren't sure i could get 3 batteries in the battery compartment. I called Bass Pro marine & found out the boat came with 2 trolling batteries but there were 3 battery trays in the compartment in case a customer wanted to upgrade. Why didn't the salesman & service manager know that? The trolling motor main wiring cable was 8 amp & the e6 volt required 6 amp. Bass Pro wanted $500 to replace the 6 amp cable. I had other questionable issues with the Bass Pro folks so I visited an authorized tracker dealer. They had a later version of the boat than the Bass Pro store & they knew all about the extra battery & need for 6 amp wiring. The dealer couldn't do anything about the price of the boat but they upgraded ....
I think you meant upgrading the 8 gauge to 6 gauge cable?

A pontoon is a giant sail when the wind comes up too.I looked up where the OP lived and didn't see any what i would call "large lake" except maybe a few TVA impounds. He said he would be fishing mostly alone too. I don't know his budget either but it's pretty tough to beat a dory or a panga design for mostly smooth to choppy water with an occasional big chop for a boat 14-18 feet. Bigger than that t o really take on big water you need a deep V with a big bow flare to keep you dry. Tri hulls are great and stable when stopped but pound when you are moving in any kind of chop, unless you get a modified tri hull like a boston whaler outrage. Bottom line is go to the lo cal marinas and see what other ppl are using, ask around. BIG lakes like the great lakes, champlain, winnipisakee, our Moosehead and Sebago, can get really nasty in 10 minutes and thats why you see 30-50 footers on them.Again, I love my Starcraft Islander, made for big water and has a head/toilet to keep the wimmin happy !!!

A deep V, high bow, wide flare, tall gunwales, that's the ticket. I can look at a boat and see if it's any good for big lakes or blue water.

Quite the opposite of Beethovens 9th where the 4th movement was written for the poem. The 4th was the first time a mixed quartet and a full choir was used in a symphony. By the time he wrote it he was deaf and had never heard it all together. At the debut performance he didn't know if the audience would like it. When it was all over and the crowd were going nuts, he didn't turn around until the soprano turned him around. When he saw the crowd applauding, he CRIED !!

I have the CD of the music in the video. That is not a real language they are singing, the composer made it up to fit the music.

I like Kast King too, A LOT. 1 of those and a walmart ugly stick, will catch most fish. Use the other 50 bucks for hooks, lures, a net, whatever.
