I used to shoot and hunt quite a bit. Deer in the sacramentos east of Alamogordo and elk in the Gila. Now I just fish. Yes caballo is very rocky; either that or muddy and flat; no weed beds to speak of. Very dark water typically and shallow. There are prettier lakes but this one has a lot of fish. Crank baits work good too but get stuck a lot so I stick with jigs mostly.

Sounds challenging, may have to make out there this year.

This lake has a little bit of everything. I just checked the TW site. I think I would love to fish those rocky shorelines. My have to put it on my list !!

Day at Caballo Slow But Fun

I'll have to try and make the trip out there. I was stationed at Holloman and drove over there but didn't fish. I got into shooting. Wish I had, it would be a different kind of fishing. If I remember right, it was really rocky.
Fished for walleyes in Nebraska using crankbaits as late July and August. May June lindy riggs with leeches and slip bobber in the weeds. Bass fisherman would complain when they had tournaments that the walleyes were in with the bass. HA!
