Hello all, I have been enjoying the site for a bit now so figured it was time to say something. I am recently retired and relocated to the coast. Until now I only fished the rivers around town for salmon when they were running on the Green river , Puyallup river and the Carbon river. Now learning surf fishing... Got a lot to learn ! I will get some pics up soon.
Welcome to the stage DM,I have a friend that lives in Orting so I'm a little familiar with the Carbon river, fished if a few times though only landed one coho so far,not a big fan of fishing rivers that look like chocolate milk.Have had some luck out of Point Defiance as well, just off the clay banks left of the marina/launch.Good luck and tight lines.
A good day for fishing doesn't always mean its a good fishing day,Went back to Reiter hatchery, weather was beautiful but just a little chilly, hey,its winter steelhead after all,the river was crystal clear, gorgeous, but heres where the but part comes in,it was at least a foot lower than it was a week ago,so instead of having 3 plus feet to float a jig down,it was more like 18" to 24" deep and didn't see a single fish.I still tried though and hit about 5 different spots that showed the best chance of holding fish,4 hrs later and not a single bump was enough because I got hungrier than the fish were and called it a day.2 weeks ago was too much rain, last week got one to the freezer and today not enough rain, whats a river fisherman to do,pray for a little rain. We'll see what next week brings,we're supposed to get some rain,I'm gonna hope we don't get too much.

I stopped by the Sultan River conjunction with Skykomish yesterday but didn’t have time to wet a line. Maybe I’ll head back up there in a few days. Lots of spent and decaying Coho on the Sultan shores.
Those fish aren't much fun to catch,I'm heading back out to the Reiter hatchery Sunday morning, got a bunch more red Aerojigs to throw out there

What does your gear look like on the other side of the bobber? What do they like to hit?
At the spot I was at they seem to like the AeroJig Hackle or Maribou,1/8 to 1/4 oz in all red,I've tried other color variations with red but all red has been the go to jig

up by Ritters or by Sultan? those two and by the old railroad tressel just outside Monroe use to be my favorite places but I know the river has changed some somewhat since then so not sure all those spots are still the place to go. but looks like you found a good spot
Reiter hatchery out past Gold Bar.all red jig on upstream side of hatchery outlet stream

Nice steelie SA! Gotta love their piss and vinegar on the end of a line.
No doubt about that, and to increase the thrill, being the sportsman that I am,I don't use a net so gotta hand land em and I use light tackle, 6# Maxima Ultragreen and set the reel drag light.
So theres only one thing better than seeing your bobber floating down the river when fishing for steelhead,Seeing your bobber go under and a big flash of chrome underneath it when your fishing for steelhead.
Its probably been over 5 years since I've gone out to chase some chrome, and it was a nice surprise to see my bobber go under on my 6th or seventh cast, coincidentally right after I took the first picture. Turned out to be a 28" hen full of eggs.

Any suggestions on locations within 2 hours of Bonney Lake would be much appreciated for canoe or shore fishing for any species or any method (e.g fly fishing or spinning rod or bait) or fresh or salt water. Thanks!
Way too many options to list, suggest getting a regulations pamphlet from licensing and tabs location or any store that sells fishing licenses, One could say theres over a thousand areas, lakes, rivers puget sound, trout, bass, crappie, perch, salmon flounder, halibut, etc. within two hours drive of Bonnylake.

Caught my first Coho a couple weeks ago in Area 9. Gone out a couple times since without luck. I just don’t know enough yet.
Unless area 9 was re-opened for some reason consider yourself lucky because its been closed since September 19th I think, area 10 closed October 31st. except for area 11 down by Tacoma, salmon fishing should be in the rivers.

What is the most unusual critter, fish or other, that you have caught, not snagged on hook or line, but actually bit and hooked. A photo would be great if you have one. Mine was a mink. The circumstances of landing and releasing it, did not lend itself to taking photos.
Caught seagulls, sea cucumber, Dungeness crab and one I didn't mind not hooking up,while reeling in to make another cast for steelhead had a river otter almost take my areo jig at the bank. Also saw somebody else catch a juvenile seal off a pier in Edmonds once.

Warm, calm and fish 🎣 on. Both of us caught Kings, finally. One 16# for me, still pink. Going to smoke this one.[/quoted
