A good day for fishing doesn't always mean its a good fishing day,Went back to Reiter hatchery, weather was beautiful but just a little chilly, hey,its winter steelhead after all,the river was crystal clear, gorgeous, but heres where the but part comes in,it was at least a foot lower than it was a week ago,so instead of having 3 plus feet to float a jig down,it was more like 18" to 24" deep and didn't see a single fish.I still tried though and hit about 5 different spots that showed the best chance of holding fish,4 hrs later and not a single bump was enough because I got hungrier than the fish were and called it a day.2 weeks ago was too much rain, last week got one to the freezer and today not enough rain, whats a river fisherman to do,pray for a little rain. We'll see what next week brings,we're supposed to get some rain,I'm gonna hope we don't get too much.

At least you had a nice day SA. It barely made it up to 30°here, with 15-20 mph wind. Hopefully you get some rain to bring your water level back up.

Not where I am Danger, and just some flurries up in the NW corner. 30° highs with 15-25 mph wind was no fun though. I would never live somewhere like Buffalo, year round. That's insane.
I always enjoyed fall fishing cool but beautiful I often would see Hawks or an eagle but you are correct the water was often to high or to low, to much color or not enough color but there were days it had dropped to just the right flow after a rain and had That perfect steelhead green color and clarity and on those day it is fish on

Just wondering what river your trying. I'm a real rookie when it comes to river fishing. I don't even know if fishing is legal in this river here at Granite Falls. Also is it a single hook only?

Depends on what part of the river your referring to,south fork Stilly or the Pilchuck,as far as gear is concerned, single barbless hook is a good rule of thumb on any river around Puget Sound. If your here in Granite Falls you could private mssg me,I live here and always look forward to meeting fellow stagers plus its way easier to pass on local knowledge in person.
