So I have collected a fair amount and variety of lures over the years and have some of them hung on my wall of the utility room in my basement. Occasionally I'll grab one for use somewhere. Years ago I was buying some books at a garage sale when my attention was distracted to a boat bookcase. The owner approached me and said "If you by those books I'll throw in the bookcase". I may be dumb but............. The bookcase had served me well over the years storing all of my next reads and since I read every night before signing off there is a constant rotation of material coming and going. When the wife decided to repaint and redecorate the bedroom, suddenly the wall mounted boat bookcase on my side of the bed was not in the grand scheme of things. I moved it downstairs not 20 ft. away from my utility room. It didn't take long before the light went on. Books went to a conventional style bookcase. The rest is history as they say. And to borrow a line from Jaws "Your gonna need a bigger boat".
I may become a boat builder again.

Any suggestions on locations within 2 hours of Bonney Lake would be much appreciated for canoe or shore fishing for any species or any method (e.g fly fishing or spinning rod or bait) or fresh or salt water. Thanks!

I live in your neck of the woods (Puyallup). Never fished Lake Tapps which is basically in your back yard but have heard there are perch and bass? I fish Alder sometimes (about a 45 minute run from here). Usually troll for kokes, which is very doable from a canoe since usually trolling slow (1MPH +-). Theres a whole string of lakes south of Graham- Kapowsin, Tanwax, Clear, and Ohop. I have fly fished from my kayak once on Ohop.
I see a fair amount of kayaks used off Point Defiance to mooch salmon at times. Puyallup River and Carbon River provide salmon opportunities in season. I'm just scratching the surface here as to fishable waters in our area.

I saw a Buoy 10 guide's boat that was outfitted with these mounted to the gunwales, addressing the issues with stowing rods, cannonball weights, and dodgers when retrieved to allow running to another location. Nobody likes 8 oz cannonball weights flailing around in the air or rolling around the deck.
So, I sketched my version onto a 5 1/2" x 12" piece of 1/2" plywood scrap I had laying around the shop (being a retired cabinetmaker with a fully functional cabinet shop certainly helps). Cut it out with a jigsaw and mounted it on the boat. It looked like it would do the job so I drew it up on the computer CNC program, adding a second dodger slot and rod hook. Setup CNC and milled a demo out of 1/4" scrap plywood. Looked good so I ordered some UHMW polyethylene (1/2" cutting board material) off Amazon and ran 2 off the pattern. Simply flipping it over laterally gave me a right and left. The slots accommodate 6"-8" triangle flashers or 11" skateboard dodgers (what I seem to use the most when chasing salmon). The rectangle recessed hole handles the cannonball weights (or as I found out later Kokanee fishing, bait jars). Added a few small holes along the edges to hang lures from. Proof tested on Puget Sound trolling for silvers. Works as advertised. I enjoy making stuff like this as much as using it. I am happy.

I have used mono for years. I am considering changing to braid when I put new line on this winter. I have always used the polymer knot with mono. I understand it is not work well with braid. Two questions what braid to you recommend and what knot do you use?

I switched to braid in 2017 when I bought my 19' Northwood. I run 100# on my Halibut rods, 50-65# on my Salmon gear, and 20# on my trout/bass rigs. I'm a fan of Palomar knots for mainline to snap swivel and have never had an issue. My leaders are usually fluorocarbon of appropriate line weight for species targeted. I love the fact that I can stack twice the capacity of line compared to mono, and that braid doesn't have memory problems (like me LOL). So, I'm sold, just be advised to buy quality products (check out reviews) and generally, you get what you pay for.

Okay knuckleheads, I'm picking up my new boat Tuesday afternoon at the dealership. I'm told I should name my boat.

So I'm taking suggestions as to a name. Let's try and keep the suggestions clean boys and girls. My wife's name is Becky so I thought of "Becky's Ride" but I'm taking other ideas.

Whatcha got?

Hey Elrod. Great looking projects! Good job on the teardrop. I was Quicksilver Custom Trailers Inc. from 1999-2004. Besides Grant's Little Bear in Redding Ca. I was really the only other teardrop mfg. in the country at that time. We made 4 sizes, smallest designed for motorcycles and actually had a kennel option for hauling the pup. I rode in the back of the "Pup" kennel prototype while my foreman pulled it down the hwy. Needed feedback to see if it was suitable for a dog. We shipped all over the country and Canada. After the corporation dissolved (along with that marriage) I built custom "one offs" between my woodworkings and cabinets. They are making a huge comeback these days.
I got started restoring an original 1947 Kit teardrop a hot rod buddy picked up to haul behind his 56' Chevy Apache. He brought it to my cabinet shop and we did a full restoration. I took patterns and measurements off it and "sat" on it for years. Buddy told me his trailer was the star of the show at every hot rod function he pulled it too so I decided to build one and see. He was right. I "massaged" the body shape to my liking and the rest was history.

Are there any fishermen on here, that like to build things from wood, when the weather is to bad to fish, if so share a few pictures of something you have hand crafted yourself, I build a few things for family gifts, here’s a picture of a hope chest I just finished building for my daughter, built from Walnut and Maple hardwood. 36” long, 15” deep from front to back and 17” high.

That is beautiful Waterdog! Great detail and finish. Kudos!
I know where you're coming from. I have been building things from wood since childhood. Having been in construction and cabinetry for over 45 years working with wood is 2nd nature. And Iv'e seen all sides of it. At 21 years old I worked for a helicopter logging outfit in 75' up in North Idaho. They would fly me, with saw and fuel jugs strapped on to the skids, and drop me off on a tiny pad built on the side of the mountain. I would fall monster white pine, hemlock, and cedar trees for 6 hours, then they would fly in and pick me up. All alone on the mountain, but I did have a radio. Built my first home in 77' in western Montana. Free use Forest Service permit to harvest beetle killed pine for my log home. After that helicopter stint finished I got out of logging, thinking I wanted to live a long and injury free life. Got into construction for the next 45 years. Iv'e had 3 cabinet shops throughout my career. Now since I'm retired I build furniture, cabinets, and artwork for family and friends. My crown jewel is my 21' Mahogany runabout I started building from scratch in 2000. Cold molded epoxied Mahogany. 12oz. fiberglass overlaid bottom. 350 Chevy/ Velvet Drive F/N/R transmission, shaft drive. The party boat extraordinary. Lately I've been carving/engraving my photos onto wood via my CNC router. If I'm not out chasing salmon or trout wife can generally find me out in my "cave". If I get a cut I don't worry to much about bleeding- I think I have wood in my veins LOL
Hope you enjoy the pics.

Yeah, it was the cool thing to do, just like the vaping these days, but I got off'em and never looked back. Also quit the booze (tho never was too much of a drinker) after a couple of bouts of irregular heart beat right after I retired. I admit I do miss the taste of a good dark beer, but clean and sober since 2018.

So what you're saying here is you're down to 1 addiction?

Hi Rick. Jerry here. Same here as for smoking. Quit back in '79 and very glad I did.

Yeah. Dated a hot little gal in high school back in 72'. I was dabbling with smoking because it was cool. She basically told me either her or the cigarettes. I chose her. Never looked back. She probably added some years to my life.
