That is the lake Andy and used to be the Bastanchury lake. My wife grew up there and caught her first bluegill as a kid.

I was raised in Azusa dad and uncle use to take us kids to Happy Jacks trout farm to catch trout when they wanted to have a barbecue. Was the good old days.

Man I used to love Happy Jacks farm. Some amazing huge trout which you couldn't catch as the rental poles did not have enough line tied to the end of them. Huck Finn style rod with no reel. A beautiful setting at the foot of the San Gabriel mountains.

I took my then 4 year old grandson to the place you mentioned near Bodega. Great place to teach a kid the basics. Went on a week day and it wasn't crowded. Used their tackle too. Based on the number of poles they had I would say it must get very busy on the weekend. Family run and a bit expensive, but worth it.

Very cool Capt. That is the Haggeman trout farm family owned who also own the meat company in Santa Rosa. That lake is a nice setting with the small hills with big and little lake. Also enough room to not be side by side with your neighbor anglers. Agree with you a perfect place for a kid learn fishing and still be able to run around.

Have had plenty of instances. Next door neighbor went with me, launched an hour before light. Was nice conditions, he ended
up getting seasick, complained all the time out. We went in and he said next time we should go out later. There was no next time.

There is nothing more sad than seeing a small kid seasick throwing up. I saw two young boys with his happy dad on a 6 pack charter boat. They all got seasick and were sitting together. The boys were the most sick and kept throwing up on the poor dad. That almost made me sick for awhile seeing that. Had to move to other side other boat.

Some people don't get the simple things in life. I don't have a son and always wanted one. I have a daughter who is a guide in Yosemite and is stronger than 99% of the men out there. I enjoy her stories.
You learned a lesson, only take people that are worthy of going out on the boat. I go with a friend who never lets me pay for anything, last time I fixed the issue with the gas tank so this will be the only way to pay him back.
We both enjoy each other company and sometimes we just have to move off some subjects.

Thanks Madrone. I always wanted a son also. What a shame as he was such a nice kid. His dad kept yelling at him to give him another beer. I learned that you never know someone just from working with them for many years until you do something outside of work. I was amazed that one person could drink so much in one day. I would be in the weeds peeing all day!!! lol

Plus he never paid his half of the agreed boat rental but good riddance. He invited me over for a pool party later to make up for it but guess what he would just be drinking more. So never saw him again as he quit the company.

Do you know why nuns travel in pairs? One nun, keeps the other nun, from getting nun!

A priest of one of the congregation, went play golf together. After several holes, the priest had a simple little putt to make and it would be below par, and would put him ahead. He missed! Damnit I missed!!! His competition, was beside himself, and told the priest to apologize to God. He did, and they played on. A few holes later and the same thing happened. Again he apologized. They played on, till he did it again. This time he looked up the skies, raised his hands, and said, if I ever said that again, may the Lord strike me dead. Well he did it again, and a bolt of lighting came out of the sky and struck the fellow he was playing with. A voice came out of the skies, saying 'damnit I missed'.

I do hope to meet some of you after I die!

Have you ever taken somebody new on your fishing trips and regretted it after a hour? Share your stories.
I had taken a guy from work and his young son on a rental boat on a beautiful lake. After a hour of fishing he had already jugged down 7 beers. He was getting more impatient not catching any fish. At the end of the day he had finished his case of 24 beers and still not caught anything and was nasty to his poor son most of the day.

Yep, I've taken all of my 3 children to "trout pond" scenarios over the years...mostly while away on vacations that happened to have the opportunity nearby. The kids loved it, and while it did cost a small fortune, the money was well spent for the look on their faces. Watching them cast after the fish was "free", so that was a small consolation!

Nice!!! Well spent money!

My wife is fine with it, and encourages me to get out often to enjoy any outdoor passions that I pursue such as fishing, kayaking and golf to name a few. We worked together running a business side by side for almost 35 years, and while we never tire of each other, we both know that spending time alone is something we both enjoy doing as well.

On occasion, she does join me to fish, which is a real thrill, but when it comes to reeling in fish, or the act of fishing, she tells me that it just does not excite her at all. That is hard to imagine and digest for somebody that is passionate about fishing...but as I have often heard..."opposites attract!"

Just got home from spending the day out 4 wheeling, and that is something that she can really sink her teeth into. We only ran about 40 miles (took 5 hours), but managed to drive thru plenty of "sippee holes", steep hills, technical navigation, sand bogs and even some easy stuff now and then! She is also my favorite kayaking "buddy". In the grand scheme of things, I consider myself a very blessed person being married to her now for the past 37 years. Frankly, without her in my life, my opportunities to go fishing, or pursue other interests, would probably be far less...if that makes any sense! She has helped knock a lot of rough edges off me as we have journeyed through life together as a team.

If you are wondering what a "sippee hole" is...it's a "yooper" term (Michigan's Upper Peninsula) for small mucky swamp holes that could be in your trail that may or may not have any bottom to them. The first person enters carefully, and if all goes well they make it thru. If you get stuck and only have the handlebars showing, while standing on your seat, then those who are following stay put! Time to get the winches out! Both of our rigs are equipped with heavy duty winches, and we have had to use them on more than one occasion!
