Have you ever taken somebody new on your fishing trips and regretted it after a hour? Share your stories.
I had taken a guy from work and his young son on a rental boat on a beautiful lake. After a hour of fishing he had already jugged down 7 beers. He was getting more impatient not catching any fish. At the end of the day he had finished his case of 24 beers and still not caught anything and was nasty to his poor son most of the day.

Sorry to hear that fishing 🎣 is supposed to be relaxing with family and friends even if you don’t catch anything🥵 I had a similar experience years back but the opposite someone I grew up with invited me and my son to spend the weekend fishing 🎣 and camping where he lived after a few hours after being there he started fighting with his girlfriend and drinking a lot and this went on for hours 🤬👎sorry to say that was the last time I saw him 🤬 never even I’m sorry from either oh well

Some people don't get the simple things in life. I don't have a son and always wanted one. I have a daughter who is a guide in Yosemite and is stronger than 99% of the men out there. I enjoy her stories.
You learned a lesson, only take people that are worthy of going out on the boat. I go with a friend who never lets me pay for anything, last time I fixed the issue with the gas tank so this will be the only way to pay him back.
We both enjoy each other company and sometimes we just have to move off some subjects.

Have had plenty of instances. Next door neighbor went with me, launched an hour before light. Was nice conditions, he ended
up getting seasick, complained all the time out. We went in and he said next time we should go out later. There was no next time.

Thanks Madrone. I always wanted a son also. What a shame as he was such a nice kid. His dad kept yelling at him to give him another beer. I learned that you never know someone just from working with them for many years until you do something outside of work. I was amazed that one person could drink so much in one day. I would be in the weeds peeing all day!!! lol

Plus he never paid his half of the agreed boat rental but good riddance. He invited me over for a pool party later to make up for it but guess what he would just be drinking more. So never saw him again as he quit the company.

There is nothing more sad than seeing a small kid seasick throwing up. I saw two young boys with his happy dad on a 6 pack charter boat. They all got seasick and were sitting together. The boys were the most sick and kept throwing up on the poor dad. That almost made me sick for awhile seeing that. Had to move to other side other boat.

Another time I worked with a couple of guys, one owned a not too big boat and invited us out. He had his bil with us too. So, we get out fishing and I started catching a fish every drop. After half hour this guy gets p"d off and says to me to change places with him. Mind you this is a 14ft boat. We swap and I continue catching fish. This guy is fuming. We had a nice haul of fish and he had only caught a few and his comment was " this is my boat why should you be catching nearly all the fish " The fish were divided up and after that trip he wouldn't even talk to me, no loss.

Wow - that is quite a story bluelake2!

I will consider myself lucky. The only fishing partner I ever had that bugged me in the slightest is a guy that INSISTED on staying until HE caught the last fish . . . almost pout if you were catching more fish than him. Nonetheless, he is a good fisherman, and I did enjoy fishing with him - but he was my least favorite. I have fished with some great people in my life.

I did take a teaching job in central Minnesota for my first job. The veteran teacher who's wrestling coach job I took invited me to go on the Minnesota fishing opener with him my first spring there. I was honored and of course said yes right away. I was shocked when he laid down the ground rules for me . . . 1) NO SMOKING in his boat - really not a concern for me as I didn't smoke, but he apparently had a guy one time burn some spots on the carpet floor of his walleye boat while smoking . . . thus the reason for rule #1. 2) NO DRINKING in his boat. He socially drank, and so did I, but this didn't bother me in the least - I rarely would drink in the boat . . . it just wasn't something that was modeled for me as a kid. - I never learned the reason for rule #2, but it also must have been something bad that happened with someone else. I was pleased that he continued to invite me to go in my time there - I must not have bugged him too much.

Fishing is a great place to really get to know someone . . . sorry to hear you got to know the bad side of someone, and also sorry for his son - alcoholism is a son of a gun!

OK - I am changing my answer . . . although I would really never consider him a fishing buddy.

My answer is now my father-in-law. He is no longer alive, but I did fish with him once! I am not going to begin to start to list the reasons.

Maybe my only time miserable in a boat while fishing.

Oh, did I say I have likely gone fishing at least 2,000 times in my life?????

I'm with you Ronnie. Complainers get one trip apiece. Even my wife knows not to complain about anything if she every wants to go again. I don't go fishing or hunting to listen to people having a bad time. It's what you decide to make of it. I've had three guys from the stage come hunting with me here in Idaho. Two of them got elk and one didn't. One went fishing a little and we didn't catch anything but I think we had a fun time. One guy that got a bull elk was worn plum out but he had a blast. The other guy brought his son and they both had bull elk tags. We got one nice bull and spent a week sight seeing and they loved the trip. These guys are all welcome back🤙

Yep I went through a lot with people that had to complain no matter what. I had so many could fill a book, needless to say I enjoyed fishing on my own, didnt hear any complaints from me.
