Nice! I just saw something on Facebook that said they’re changing the slot limit to 29”-31” effective as soon as June 2, 2023. Ask your local bait and tackle shop if they’ve heard anything.

Well quite frankly after battling that fish for nearly an hour… this 60+ year old man was toast… I wish I would have at least had my buddy taken a picture with me in it or something to scale… so here’s some old school rough calculations which I think are being generous… looked like 10’ shark and 200 lbs… it was a big fish and I landed it with 25 lb mono, 40 lb liter and a 40lb 6” wire liter ( that I crimped) thank the fish gods for doing that… many things could go wrong during an hour battle with undersized tackle…. I was waiting for the I infamous “bewing” of a straighten hook, failed knot or line break… the fish gods were smiling down on me that day….[/quote

I am amazed the snap swivel didn’t break. Or mainline
You and me both, I wasn't fishing for shark... I just got that Penn Warfare Combo at Bass Pro Shops during their Spring Fishing Classic a month or so ago... I was constantly messing with the drag and moving from port to starboard aft to keep the line from getting cut by the prop... the fish gods were smiling down on me that day!

What a great time! That one will go down in your fishing history for sure. 45 minutes, wow!

Yes, I hope some day you will get to experience the same, a battle like that only comes around once or twice for most of us… good luck and tight lines!

How big was that shark? It looked like he was over man size!

Hey Duck, I know that was thrilling! But, I'll bet money that you didn't bring that in! Lol

Well pulled into the boat thru the door, no. I am pretty sure shark's are not in season till May 1st. Is my buddy nuts enough to reach down and pull the hook and sinker out of the sharks mouth yea, it was his 8 oz sinker.... a minute later he said that was kinda dumb... I didn't care about the 12/0 Circle Hook... I have plenty of those... fish safely released.

The tide was pushing the water so hard I had to use the heaviest sinker I had with me to get and keep that bait down, the Edisto 60 is just that… 60’ deep and I let the bait hit the bottom then gave it a couple of cranks to get the bait 10-15 foot off the bottom… I could feel that fish shaking it’s head and yeah the sinker probably hit them in the head 100 times and pissed it off even more… that fish must of pulled us 1/4 mile off the reef… my buddy said the boat was like 3 barrels from some movie… :) Tight lines the season is just getting started… get out there and FISH!

Monday - “Hey, wana go fish the Edisto 60 and hit the 40 on the way back in”… sure why not… a little early, anything biting… I heard the cobia may be coming in… really cool let’s go! Nothing, black bass, pin fish, trigger fish, throw back, throw back, where’s the cobia? Tgen the best sound ever… zzzz, zzzzz, zzzzzzzz what the… didn’t plan on this, epic 45 minute battle, that fish made a “U” out of my Penn Warefare Rod that looks like a pool cue… safely released to battle again.

Hey I fish Lake Murray at least a couple times a year and I can’t think of ever seeing anybody bank fishing other than at the state park, I would call or stop by there when you get over there….

Fresh Shrimp, even at the deli counter at a grocery store is still better than that frozen crap at the pier... you are better off not going at all if you use that crap.

Did you catch anything?

I kinda figured that question was coming… it’s pretty sad when the highlight of the day on LKN is posting pictures of a couple buckets on some ropes… we took a break and fished for some crappie with no luck, but I did catch this nice pan fish and a couple of spots that weren’t picture worthy… stay tuned… the leaves are on the trees and spring is here… we will find the fish.

We were trolling for Stripers and Hybrids on LKN, yes the outboard was on, it’s a 200 HP Suzuki on a 2018 22’ Sea Pro Center Counsel with a T Top. Thank you for the tip on the sea anchor, I didn’t think of that.

Okay here’s the deal. Trolling with the trolling motor wide open to maintain 2 mph kills the batteries in about 3 hours… trolling with the outboard even trimmed up loose is 2.4 to 2.6 mph… too fast. So we tried the “2 buckets on a rope” technique, one port side one starboard. The boat maintained 1.9 to 2.1 mph for the 7 hours. We had 3 holes in each bucket about 2” in diameter. The boat was easy to steer including make turns. Ridiculous Brilliant.

That’s the perfect attitude to make a great Stager!!

Were you guys using planner boards? We get 3 rods per man trolling on Erie so in my little boat I’m pulling 6 at a time most of the time. It can be a challenge but once you’re dialed in things usually run smoothly.

Tight lines
J

Yes, we pull planer boards on several lakes down here in the Carolinas for stripers, we usually pull live bait but a buddy of ours has caught some decent hybrids pulling A-Riggs on planer boards... I thought it sounded nuts but why not give it a try and cause we can get 7-9 rods out.

It’s been quite awhile since I fished Lake Erie, I took my dad up there for Father’s Day and we went out of Port Clinton, we caught some nice walleyes. He passed away a couple years ago and my brother sent me his tackle box... it still had some Erie Dearies in it... see pix... you guys still using em up there?
