Hey Langer. Is there a size or quantity limit there?
We have a 2 fish limit and they have to be 18 inches or longer. Just wonderin?
I definitely know what you mean by how they thrash around and the hazards of those treble hooks. Got one in my hand yesterday.
Hey Langer. Is there a size or quantity limit ther... (show quote)

No Saw in Arizona there's no size limit and no quantity limit. At Havasu there are thousands of 10-11 in stripers in a half mile area that I've been fishing the last few days. It would probably help the fishery by eliminating some of these in the same size range, they must have had a heck of a spawn year in 2022.

The past week, even though we've been hot at Havasu, the fishing for stripers has been very good. I found a spot that runs a mile and a half or so in length below Mesquite Bay that's producing many small stripers with an occasional two pounder. I had a double hookup on Saturday and yesterday had another with both a largemouth and a striper on the same chartreuse square bill, one on each treble hook. I've been catching and releasing up until yesterday and I ended up bringing six home that my wife filleted, did a very nice job on and we had Taco Tuesday dinner tonight and they were delicious. The fish are real scrappers and they've stuck treble hooks in me constantly wriggling around once I bring them into my kayak.

Did you fish the tournament, any Bass caught?

Hey AZ, no I saw quite a few trucks in the parking lot from the tournament guys but I did not fish it as I never had a hit on throwing plastic worms for several hours this morning. Stripers don't count in the tournament but it would have been a fun morning but again they were short.

Try fishing deeper . maybe the larger are underneath the shorts.

My crankbait which is a yellow square bill immediately dives down about 6 ft maybe gets to 8' if I crank hard but everything I see chasing it right up to the kayak are small unfortunately. I'll try again Monday.

I took a few days off and was up on the San Francisco Peninsula, got back yesterday and out this morning in South Mesquite Bay. I was casting a yellow Square bill in 18 ft of water and watched stripers chasing it to the kayak. Next cast I get a hit and I see about 12 - 15 fish chasing the two stripers I've got hooked, one on each treble hook. I was in and out of a school of stripers for the next hour and a half and caught 10 or so, most are only 11-12 in. Trying to catch their grandpa but never did find him. Fun day.

I'd go there first thing in the morning but that's me and sit there.

Hey Colorado it's actually warmer I should say hotter at 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning with no Breeze then 9:30 or 10:00 when a nice 8 mile an hour breeze kicks up. I was out yesterday on the South Shore and Bill Williams River and was cooking until after 9:00 and it was much more tolerable and I split by 11 a couple of hits, no fish and taking the day off today as it's to hit 122° wow!
I used to find the same thing on the golf course in Palm Springs as the sprinklers would be going at night and it would be so hot/humid til the sun would burn off the moisture and by 8:30 would be cooler.
So now we can hope the monsoons come soon, that'll change things up. I put 4 water dishes out now for any wildlife that wants a drink as there's no water anywhere in my neighborhood.

Not bad for those temps, and no skunk!!🎣

Yes fellas it was cooking again today, got out for 2 hours and didn't have a hit the whole time at Mesquite Bay. Finally 10:00 rolls around and I had to take a quick swim and get on out of there, many people are getting sick around here from being out in the heat, need to be careful. No let up either for the next week or so. Heading up the coast in 10 days through Big Sur and a few days in the fog of SF.

It was certainly cooking this morning when you have a low of 94° at 6:00 a.m. here in the desert of Lake Havasu. But I put my kayak in at Mesquite Bay and was the only one in the parking lot at 7:00 and was out for 4 hours. I caught two small stripers on a shad crankbait and then anchored near a buoy that I had had a huge hit 2 weeks ago. Either a large Catfish or huge Largemouth hit a worm hard as I was drifting it past the same buoy and he broke my leader. So today I was soaking a plastic crawdad and again the rod tip bounced twice and all of a sudden he's taking line and boom gone. I think I tie good knots but the hook had given way at the leader and the knot came loose so that upset me. But I'll probably be out there again tomorrow morning in that same spot looking for him

Just to get out of the house took the wife out to In-N-Out Burger last night and at 7:30 it was still 109°. Some night fishing sounds like fun but I'll wait a month or two before I give it a try. This morning was 93° at 5:00 a.m. so you can see the Earth just is not cooling overnight, typical of the desert.

I've been fishing over at Site 6 the last few days but decided to try Mesquite Bay very early this morning as it is to hit 119° by 3:00 p.m. I got out at 6:30 and was actually hotter than 9:00 because a little breeze kicked up and blew that hot air around a little ha.
I've been picking up a small striper each day trolling but today was very quiet until I picked up a pound and a quarter Largemouth on a Green Yum plastic crawdad imitation. I really need to take a break tomorrow and get a little rest from this sun and heat after being out everyday this week.

I changed it up a little today and drove down to the South Shore and put my kayak in at Lookout Point, Parker Dam. I tossed a worm along the shoreline for a few hours in big time heat, 110° with no breeze, it was cooking. I then trolled through Gene Wash with a yellow square bill and picked up this nice striper. I told my wife later a few more would have made fish tacos but released this guy.

Sorry to hear about your breakoffs, Langer. You ought to give copolymer a try. Copolymer line incorporates two nylon polymers, has a fairly high level of impact resistant and abrasion resistance, and it doesn't snap very easily. It’s not quite as strong as braid, but definitely stronger than monofilament and fluorocarbon line and thinner at the same weight and equally "transparent" in water. I use P-line brand.

Ha that's funny DC because I know it's P-line brand I had breakage problems, it easy 10# test not sure what it's made from but I'll check.

I was going to finally take a day off today but woke up early and had a nice breezy morning so that's a good time to fish Havasu when it's hot, on a windy day. So I go three and a half hours without a hit and decided to drift back in that nice breeze to Mesquite Bay South dragging a purple worm on one rod and a white pearl worm on the rod in the rod holder. Finally the rod in the rod holder bends over double and I grabbed it and felt like a good hit. Brought it in about 30 ft and realized I was definitely caught, hung up on something big time. So I opened the bail paddled back into a stiff breeze to get on the other side of the obstacle and ended having to do it three times because the wind was blowing me back over my line.
That ugly stick was bending and bending and I was very close to getting the knife to cut the line instead of breaking the rod tip and then all of a sudden...bam I'm free but I've got what I'm guessing is a big wad of weeds on the other end. Yes plenty of weeds but also a 3 lb Largemouth fighting his way to the kayak. What a crazy finish and had I ended up cutting the line he certainly would have died tangled up as he was. Fish for another hour and never had a hit the rest of the morning so headed home. Crazy day.

Nice largemouth. Sounds like you may have a defective spool of line. Change brands or at least try a new spool.

No actually the leader was a 10# fluorocarbon yesterday and I had changed to a 12 lb mono which I've had very good luck with and put it on yesterday and it broke this morning. I have it tied to a swivel to cut down on line twist that I'm getting connected to braid. Just some bad luck and it'll get better, sure would like to catch one of those Largemouth swimming around with my purple worm hanging out of their mouth ha!

It's been a nice day of fishing both yesterday and today here in Havasu, little bit cooler and a nice breeze kept the temperatures within reason. This large mouth, a two and a half pounder came today on a cranberry plastic worm and the guy had plenty of grass wrapped around him as I got him to the kayak.
But I've had broken leader problems both yesterday and today, lost a huge fish yesterday as my 10 lb fluorocarbon leader broke in the middle. Then today I lost another good one halfway to the kayak and again leader was broke right in the middle, kind of crazy and I have to change the line for a 3' leader on braid.
