I cheated and went to the internet for info. Diamonds are the hardest but aren’t rocks. Of the two rocks listed, marble and taconite, marble is the hardest.

Can’t help with tilapia. every once in a while they’ll hit a lure but more often I’ll foul hook one. They fight harder when they’re foul hooked. Not sure I’d want to eat any fish coming out of the ponds down here if that’s what you’re looking to do.

Does anyone have experience fishing fresh water in or near Venice, Florida?

Almost any pond you have access to will contain large mouth bass, tilapia, and Florida gar. Most times of the year a Texas rigged watermelon colored or black colored worm works well for LMB. They’ll also hit live shiners readily and various lures. Have fun.

I foul hooked this guy yesterday. He was hooked through his pectoral fin and put up one hell of a fight. Why is it when they actually hit a lure and get hooked in the mouth they just lay on their sides and slide right in.

By ponds I mean the fresh water ponds that all over. Any development you have access to has them and there are lots in the open along some of the roads - venice east going into Sarasota national for example. My jetty fishing has been from on the jetty.

Bass are biting in the ponds. Whiting & snappers off the gulf end of the north jetty. Nothing in the intercoastal. All above from this past week

I might have believed their findings if they hadn’t said all fresh water fish.

So what fresh water fish do you think are safe to eat.

Yesterday - not even a bite out in the intercoastal near Blackburn Point but 3 nice mangrove snappers on the beach side of the North Jetty in Nokomis

It looks like catch & release is the way to go if you’re fishing in fresh water.

One good size one, 4 small around a pound. The little ones liked a Texas rigged watermelon worm. The big guy went for a blue-black lizard.

I caught a bunch of whitening off the North Jetty ( beach side) a couple of days ago. Nothing was being caught on the channel side. Fish were all in the 10 to 12 inch range.
