Thanks for the offer Cat, that was nice of you but i will pass. Still prefer my east coast fish, old guy thing i guess.

You bet. You’re not missing out on anything anyway. Just about any fish is better than salmon if you ask me. They’re fun to catch but that’s it for me. That’s why I don’t even go any more unless someone wants some. I don’t.

I received word earlier this morning that ronniejw has passed away a few weeks ago.

His humor and Aussie accent has been missed from the stage for awhile now and unfortunately his girlfriend was just able to let us know.

Knowing that ronnie was a religious man and it is comforting to know he is with the Lord. For some reason of my own, i do believe he can read these condolences we all will be sending. And hear the prayers for healing intended for his family.

Ronnie this isn't goodbye my friend, it's see you later.

Very sad to hear this Plum. Ronnie and I visited through PM and email a lot. I haven’t received any communication or replies from him for quite a while. Now I know why. Thanks for letting us know. I’m gonna miss him.

True and I understand what you are saying but somehow it’s not the VA it’s the people who work there that don’t know the system nor care they are only there for the pay and benefits. If they stay for 20 years they get the same benefits and it’s a shame

That’s it in a nutshell. None of the people working in the VA clinics are veterans and most of them are just there because they get 14 paid holidays a year, sick leave, easy hours, an easy paycheck with benefits and a retirement. They couldn’t care less about us veterans.

If you want salmon the next time we have a run I’ll catch all you want and ship em to ya. Easy fish to catch when they’re running and headed for spawning grounds. Actually I’ve never had a problem catching my limit anywhere. There’s just not a lot of opportunities to catch them in the lower 48 any more. It’s basically fishing for big trout. Bigger hooks, bigger bait but the same stuff. I just throw a big blue fox spinner or a castmaster in the river from the bank and they’ll nail it. Trolling I just drag a quickfish with a sardine wrap on it.

not all salmon are the same in taste or texture and oil content. over here we have King (chinook), Silver (coho), Chum (dogfish salmon), pink and sockeye. Generally the top three best eating according to most people are the Sockeye, king, and coho with the Chum and pink at the bottom. To me pink has more of the texture and taste of a trout and you have to bleed and get on ice right away or else the flesh will start to determinate quickly but I like pink and chum salmon fried the same as trout and have smoked them as well. King and coho I like better BBQed or broiled they have a firmer texture. I have never fished for sockeye but I know many people consider them to be number one eating salmon. By the way the salmon cat catches in Idaho have taken a long journey from the ocean to get to where he catches them and my understanding is salmon when they start spawning as soon as they enter fresh water start to break down where as the salmon we catch we catch in the salt water so there could be a big difference between the taste and quality of the salmon he catches and those we catch.

I’ve only caught a handful of salmon here in Idaho and have only eaten them a couple of times here. Most of the salmon I’ve caught have been in the Columbia River from Astoria to Bonneville dam. That and Homer Alaska and surrounding areas. Very few have I caught here in Idaho. Not on the top of my list of fish to catch anywhere, especially here in Idaho. I will say though, after catching lots of salmon in Oregon these fish up here, headed for Chalis Idaho, are much more firm and better eating than the ones I’ve caught down around Bonneville dam. They leave the ocean according to how far they have to go. The “up-river brights” everyone is after are those headed “up-river” meaning my place and beyond. The reason they’re so shiny and bright is because they are in much better shape when they leave the ocean. Those west coast fish, headed up nearby tributaries, are way softer and darker than the fish headed “up-river”. I’ve fished for salmon a long time and I have buddies in Alaska who have been commercial salmon fishermen since before the Exxon Valdez spill so they’ve learned a thing or two in a few decades of fishing. Good source of info. I’ve only been in Idaho since 2018. I spent 25 plus years fishing in you neck of the woods down there and still do from May through September. 😎

Just never have cared for the taste really. I caught, literally, hundreds of salmon when I lived in Oregonand I still enjoy going to Alaska salmon fishing. We catch truck loads of wild king salmon out in the ocean and the bays up there but I, personally, don’t care to eat them. The fun is in the catching for me. Never really cared for them so I gave most of them away. Not much flavor to em but they’re fun to catch. My Mom loves fresh salmon so I catch them for her and a few of my friends but I’ll eat a crappie any day over a salmon. Wild salmon out of the ocean are quite a bit better but the running and spawning fish? No thanks.

Lord willing, I get to meet Jeremy, Justoldjim and ? next Wed. I have caught a few trout, crappy, catfish and carp, but never a salmon or bass and those are what most of you folks seem to to get most excited about.

You can, definitively, have my share of the salmon out there. I’ve never eaten one that would compare to crappie but I’ll be looking forward to some pictures of the fish if you catch any. Good luck👍

That is crazy. I would contact my Congress/file a congressional because no matter where you are you should be able to use the VA. I do agree the VA is so mixed up and no matter where or who you are you have earned this right. I didn’t think any State could change federal laws especially considering Military.

Oregon is a rather unique state compared to any other state I’ve ever been in. I don’t have that problem here in Idaho. It’s just like Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Alaska here. When I first moved here I contacted the VA and asked if I had to be registered with the state of Idaho to receive military benefits through the VA. The first thing they said was “No. why would you ask that?” So I told them. They said “That’s Oregon for ya”🙄

If you showed the same side of the fish in both pictures it would be easy to tell.

Me too Plum. I don’t let anyone anger me. Very few have that kind of power👍.
