Routine cleaning through out yet year.
In wintertime. Before putting up I loosen the drags
Then between winter put away and spring breakout I’ll tear em down , clean thouroughly and lube. Grease on gears and oil on bearings , unless ceramic bearings , I run these dry.

Sounds great, Ben
What do you charge ? 😂

Thanks, Ben - that’s good to hear!

I wasn’t thinking finesse plastics but I’d love to have cleaner casts with my light cranks & jerks. I hate having to pull some line out after a long cast ☹️

I haven’t tried an Alde. I do have a Metanium that I bought used a couple years ago but it’s never been my favorite - the release button has always been a little tempermental and moreso now. More recently I picked up a Revo SX and like that reel. But I’ve never really noted a backlash control difference between my different curados and Revos - is a difference expected?

At this point, I’ll think that I’ll pick up a DC in the off season when I find a good deal. And I should probably have a few of my reels cleaned & serviced 😅

Thanks again,

Thanks lv
That’s good to hear!
Light cranks, jerks and even jigs have started pushing me back to my spinning reels and I’d really like to be able to use my baitcaster for most of my fishing apps 👍

Hello All

Any experience with the new Shimano DC reels?

They claim longer casting distance and reduced backlashes especially with light lures - and I could use both if they really do. My baitcasting is fine with lures that have weight but can struggle with light lures ☹️

We don’t have much time before ice closes down our boat fishing season but I would consider trying one between now and spring if they really help. Yes, I know that I should just practice more 🤭

Any experience with them, good or bad?

Thx,

You're killing it up there Red, I haven't been able to buy any that big down here. I may have to come up and visit next year. Where besides the river do you find such big Bass?

What do you like to use, Fred?
Plastics, Jigs, Spinners, Cranks, Jerks, Swimbaits, Chatter?

Most of our big catches this year have been on JackHammer Chatters 🎉

Absolutely Red, I'll be retiring in the Spring and will have much more flexibility then.
I've only got about 2more trips after today, then I'll winterize the boat and cover it for the winter.

Fishing apps?
I'd love to come up and fish somewhere with populations of Bass that size. They're very few and far between down here.

Fred
Let’s plan on that after ice out 🎣
I’ll still fish for a few weeks from my Coleman Crawdad but it’s not as comfortable & the weather conditions are tougher 😬

Hi Fred
I live on Lake Boon. Some of those were caught on Boon but we also fish 5 or 6 other lakes in the area on the weekend - because Boon can be pretty stingy 😅

No guarantees but I’d love to have a fish together next season 🎣👍

What type of fishing apps do you like?

Thanks,

Has anyone had good results with Big Baits?

I got my 6.3 LMB PB last year on a Bucca BullGill but very little to show from a growing collection of Big Baits - Buccas, Spro Rats, MagDrafts, Ospreys, Huds, Arachi, Antidote, Deep cranks ...

I know that you expect fewer bites but is very hard to commit more time with so few results ☹️

Is anyone getting better results? Maybe in those states that have DDs to pursue?

Thanks,

Nice catching Red, was that on the Assabet?

Hey Fred
Yes, that was on the Assabet which comes pretty close to my house.

Maybe se should have been fishing there more this year - or maybe we just hit that magic day/time that we are always looking for.

I have to take the bass boat out tomorrow so I fished a couple of hours today - but only got 3 Crappies across 7 rods & baits. I’ve been trying to get big baits working but it wasn’t a good year for them. Thank goodness for the Chatterbait & Jigs > they got me a 6.2, 5.8, 4.3, 4.75 and a few 3+s 😎

Usually we fish local lakes but the bite has been slow for the last month.
So Thursday we decided to try the local river & I’m sure glad that we did.
We landed 25 bass & pickerel over 3 or 4 hours including some big ones - a 4.75 and 3.25 LMB and some big pickerels 🎉

The Chatterbait has been the money bait for us this whole season 👍

I’ve been told buy several that I should always change stock trebles on baits like crank baits (and some of my big bait trebles are starting to look pretty rough) - but there are so many types (round bend, short shank, wide gap, hybrid ...) and I don’t know the treble sizes on my crank baits.
I do know that there are a number of good suppliers (Owner, Game, VMC, Berkeley ...) but I’m lost on the types & sizes.
Help?

I’ve had great luck with the Pflueger XTs for years but they are heavy compared to my baitcaster low profile reels and I didn’t enjoy throwing them as much when fishing a full day.

I got a Stradic a couple years ago and have really liked the size & weight of that reel.

I wanted to put a lighter spinning reel on my E6 jig rod and just bought the new Vanford in the 3000 size - very carbon fiber light with 6.4:1 speed and 20 lb drag. It’s on the expensive side but if you want light (it’s like there is no reel on the rod), it’s worth considering 👍

On short pitches & flips, I have trouble loading the rod or swinging the bait for a light lure and short distance - and I have neuro issues with impaired reaction time ☹️
