I had a Counseled Weapon Permit thru' the '60s to the late '70s for a job I had carrying large sums of $. Used to carry my "Dirty Harry Cannon" in a shoulder holster under my jacket. Never had to draw it but figured if I ever had to and fire it, even if I missed the noise would make 'um poop there pants. lol

I'm with Spritof27. Only bad 'Gllls I've ever eaten came out of shallow or muddy water and then you risk finding worms in 'um in the too shallow water and I don't care what the DNR says about eatin' wormy fish, THEY CAN HAVE MY SHARE. I rank 'Gills rite up there with Walleye for fresh water fish, UM UM. Try using Rolled Gold Pretzels for batter after you've run the large figure 8s thru' your blender and reduced 'um to almost powder(very few chunks left). All the seasoning you'll need 'cept for maybe a bit of tarter sauce. After I've scaled 'um, I take the front fins with the head and cut out the upper and lower fins, pat 'um dry with ah couple squares of paper towel. Drag 'um thru' ah couple whipped eggs and then thru' the powdered pretzel batter and on into the cast iron skillet with a bit of EVOO in it startin' to smoke ah little. 3 minutes oh each side in and the fillets will curl away from the back bone and part of the rib cage. Come On Spring, Jer

Yup. it iz saw, W/6" bbl. The "K" refers to the frame size for the .22, .32, & .38 built on the same frame. Best .22 revolver ever made IMHO. Only thing I had changed on it was to have a target hammer installed. I preferred the short light squeeze rather then the squeeze from a dropped hammer, but that's just me. Did give me much tighter groups too tho'. 1 of 4 S&Ws in my house along with a M48, M53, and an M29. Only none S&W handgun I ever owned was Thompson Center Contender .45X.410 W/ a left hand factory grip. All the rest in the house were were either Pre-64 Winchesters or or Browning's.

Anybody 'sides me ever run onto such a bunch of bull frogs in one place that the best & most fun way to harvest 'um was with a model 17 K-22? Did my own little research study that spring and summer on those critters. Of the ones that were facing me when I touched off a round, the average was 2 in 5 that had no entrants hole, just an exit hole in the back of their heads. And the total count for me alone taken that year was a bit over 225 frogs. Good eatin' way into the fall. Maybe hard to believe what I just said but I'm not making this up. No fairy tail here. Think about the reaction time of those critters when they could see the round coming at them in time to open wide and catch it. Told a couple friends about that lake and they would not stop like we'd agreed to do, and continued to working over the frog population to a point that what was not harvested migrated off that lake and never found again as late as 2010, Jer

Egg. Didja know they called that hill Lady Birds folly. LBJ was Prez when that stretch of I-80 was designated to be constructed. Try telling some one who's never been across that hill about the size of the snow fences up top. Or the size of the chain link fences to keep the mule deer when they migrate off the interstate on the west end of the hill. Or that the ranchers up there have their own on & off ramps that have to be dug out with over size front end loaders when the wind blows. We both know they'd think you'd spent too much time in the liquor cabinet. FYI, I ran the contiguous 48 and most of the provinces with a CDL for 46 years. Not too many surprises out there anywhere anymore. Happy Trails & tight Lines, Jer

The state routes in Wisconsin were full of those Burma Shave Signs back in the '40. Between those signs and playing Licence Plate Bingo my sister and I were good for miles 'n miles without ah fist fight, Jer

Ricky, That 2nd pic of the Walleye is the prettiest pic of one of those critters I've seen in years. Too bad it was caught so close to Elk Mountain. I personally have had that gate closed behind me this time of year and It sure was ah lonely trip to Laramie that time. So I don't do that trip 'til June anymore. lol

I would like to get the one back that I gave away too, but I handed it to a very good friend knowing that he planed to pass it off to his younger Brother who I also know that I thought would use it. And it was happily handed to my friend with "0" strings attached. The brother is a one man show building contractor that's like an overworked two headed chicken trying to pick up enough corn to not starve to death and barley has time to sleep. He in turn handed all the equipment over to an apprentice Carpenter on his pay role that allegedly loved fishing with no appreciable assets to acquire fishing equipment, that shortly after he took possession of all my stuff discovered Cocaine. Hard to tell where any of that fishing equipment is today. I just laugh in pain and move on and try not to think of any part of that transaction. And I chased it back as far as I could about a year ago and that's the where the chase ended Weird huh? Jer

Thanks for the tip Chris, I'll definitely check it out. BTW, The Mitchell Museum is telling me that there were 3 different Mitchell 498 reels. A regular 498 made from'68 to'8? With 175,454 units produced ... a 498 PRO made between '84 and '8? with 12,133 units produced ... and the 498X in '89 to '89 with ---0--- units produced HUH? No clue what the differences were, but that's what it says. GL with the search, Jer

Welp Fixorfish. The only way I can respond and keep it friendly which is my hope and plan is to say that I looked and tried to research for a Mitchell Reversible and could not Identify any thing in the Mitchell-Garcia line as an actual reversible spinning reel, and only the 401 stood out as a right side crank reel. Beyond that, I call Wilmington, N.C. home and being this close to the salt, My tackle shop choices are limited to Wally World or Dicks Sporting Goods and In both instances Not Worth starting the car for. Darn shame too that we live on opposite ends of this great land. You strike me as someone I'd enjoy to sit and swap lies and swat fly's with. I'm not the new kid on the block either tho'. I was 4 months old when Hitler decided to hurt his neighbors in Poland and I remember it well lol. Happy Trails 'N Tight Lines, Jer
