Flipping a frog

Last summer, I was in Ohio, near a little town of Greenville. I got the itch to go fishing. There is a place called Wayne Lakes. It is a small community with several small connected lakes. The community charges non-residents $7.00 / day to fish the lakes.
I was fishing one of the lakes, flipping a frog lure into the lily pads. As I was reeling in close to the shore.
A Hugh black bullfrog attacked my frog lure. That frog’s head was the size of a tennis ball and was a good foot long. Must have weighed a good 2 pounds, cause it bent my rod in half. Unfortunately he hopped off my hook before I could get a picture. I just couldn’t believe it happened. Later I found out that bullfrogs are carnivores and will eat there own. I guess he didn’t like the taste of plastic. 😀

Break out the gig, they may eat their own but I eat their own too. We'll get out a couple times a year and gig up a few of those croaking jokers. The wife still turns her nose up at them but my son and I really enjoy a mess of frog legs.

Anybody 'sides me ever run onto such a bunch of bull frogs in one place that the best & most fun way to harvest 'um was with a model 17 K-22? Did my own little research study that spring and summer on those critters. Of the ones that were facing me when I touched off a round, the average was 2 in 5 that had no entrants hole, just an exit hole in the back of their heads. And the total count for me alone taken that year was a bit over 225 frogs. Good eatin' way into the fall. Maybe hard to believe what I just said but I'm not making this up. No fairy tail here. Think about the reaction time of those critters when they could see the round coming at them in time to open wide and catch it. Told a couple friends about that lake and they would not stop like we'd agreed to do, and continued to working over the frog population to a point that what was not harvested migrated off that lake and never found again as late as 2010, Jer

Bart, I live down the road towards Canton. Havn't heard of Wayne Lakes. Did you catch anything besides cannibal bullfrogs?

Yup. it iz saw, W/6" bbl. The "K" refers to the frame size for the .22, .32, & .38 built on the same frame. Best .22 revolver ever made IMHO. Only thing I had changed on it was to have a target hammer installed. I preferred the short light squeeze rather then the squeeze from a dropped hammer, but that's just me. Did give me much tighter groups too tho'. 1 of 4 S&Ws in my house along with a M48, M53, and an M29. Only none S&W handgun I ever owned was Thompson Center Contender .45X.410 W/ a left hand factory grip. All the rest in the house were were either Pre-64 Winchesters or or Browning's.

Man BBC, we have a lot in common. I lost an S&W .22 with target hammer and trigger with a 4" barrel to the LAW. Long story, but I didn't have to go back to jail after I got released ROR. I still have a mod 19 and 29 though. I also have colt, beretta and rugers as well.

I had a Counseled Weapon Permit thru' the '60s to the late '70s for a job I had carrying large sums of $. Used to carry my "Dirty Harry Cannon" in a shoulder holster under my jacket. Never had to draw it but figured if I ever had to and fire it, even if I missed the noise would make 'um poop there pants. lol
