hey billy, keep your shiner moving. what has probably happen your shiner found cover. use a flotation device (cork) and watch the cork, when it stops moving for 8-10 seconds move your shiner a couple of feet if the shiner returns to the same place it has found cover and then move the shiner 10'-15'. moving the shiner is a constant endeavor. hope this helps. good luck and good fishin'

I was wondering how many fisherman fish for Bass at night? If so how are they set up in their boats or from shore? What techniques and fishing equipment do they use? What SAFTEY measures do they use? Even the kayak and fishermen that WADE fish. I fish at night from my boat so I am interested in what some fisherman have to say. What they use and how they do their type of night fishing 🎣...Thanks for your input..

hey ton, i use do a lot of bass fishing at night in my 10' jon boat in local ponds (10 acres to about 40 acres) and depending on the time of the year my fishing depth would be from 3'-15' and my #2 go to lure would be the green and black frog and my #3 is the all black jitterbug or the jointed green/black jitterbug and my #1 without a doubt is the 5"-7" red tail shiner. i must tell you, you will catch more bass with the shiners if you are using A HEAVY ROD with a bait casting reel with an anti click feature. btw, the biggest thing about fishing at night is NO NOISE OR LOUD TALKING IN THE BOAT! night fishing for bass is a lot of fun. hope this helps. good luck and good fisnin'

I have two poles. One spinning rod and one baitcaster. I use fluorocarbon on both. I use senkos & soft plastics on my spinning and jigs/crankbaits on my baitcaster. I’m planning to get a third for braided line to be my top water. Fluorocarbon sinks and braid doesn’t. I always switch depending on the area I’m fishing and whether the weather/water is looking favorable for the colors you want. I literally swap between four plastics. Craws, Senkos, Curly Tail Worms, and Brush Hogs (any other creature bait you prefer but I like the way brush hogs move in the water, especially in the water I fish in). Always switch depending on vegetation too. Whether it’s grassy or not.

I just wanted to shout out your handling skills- Too many people don't know to support the belly on bigger fish.

What'd you catch it on?

actually, i read in "bass master" magazine (i think) years ago to never place a hand on the belly of a bass, it has a slime which protect the fish from bad bacteria.

match your line weight with your lure e.g. 17#- 20# line weight i match with worms, lizards, frogs and jigs etc. 15#-17# line weight i match with crank baits, spinning baits, lunker lures etc. and 8#-12# line weight i match with 4"-7" top water plugs. hope this helps. always remember "a bad day of fishing is always a good day"!

Hello all. I can’t catch a fish of any kind. I found time to go fishing four times this summer. Did not catch one fish, not one! Not one bite! I’m fishing in the Clark Fork river in Thompson Falls Mt. I’m trying for pike, large and small mouths bass or just anything that swims. I don’t have a boat so bank fishing is what it is. Now that it’s fall should I just wait until spring. The river here opens up to form a lake just before the dam. I’ve tried frozen smelt, all my crank bait lures , nite crawlers , some jigs but there hard to use from the shore. Is it my scent. Someone told me to try we 40, tried that to. Don’t know-what to try.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks LarryW

relax larry, we all get skunk every now and then. my #1 suggestion for no boaters is to free line shiners from the bank. rarely have shiners failed me. "try it, you'll like it".

Twoalligators were sitting at the side of the River.

The smaller one turned to the bigger one and said, 'I can't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age, we were the same size as kids - I just don't get it.'

'Well,' said the big Croc, 'What have you been eating?'
fishermen, same as you,' replied the small Croc.

'Hmm. Well, where do you catch them?'

'On the other side of the river near the boat ramp

'Same here. Hmm.....How do you catch them?' asked the big Croc.

'Well, I crawl up under one of their pickup and trailer and wait for one to unlock the car door. Then I jump out, grab them by the leg, shake the crap out of them and eat 'em!'

'Ah!' says the big Crocodile, 'I think I see your problem. You're not getting any real nourishment. See, by the time you finish shaking the crap out of a fisherman, there's nothing much left but an a**hole with a fishin pole.'

this has nothing to do with fishing, and I apologize

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from the Consulate at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal h****rs and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard of temperatures in the Arctic zone.

Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.

Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coast cities uninhabitable."

I must apologize.

I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in

The Washington Post 96 years ago.

This must have been caused by the Model T Ford's emissions, or possibly from horse and cattle fart

I hope to get back into fishing at 65 years old after fishing as a teenager. I tried a couple times in recent years but got frustrated. I spent more time straightening out looped fishing line than fishing. I got some great tips from BPS guy in fishing dept to limit or prevent this from happening. Any tips from you veteran lake fishermen on preventing this so I can enjoy casting and actual fishing? Thanks to all for any responses.

to fix the problem permanently on spinning reels you must learn how to spool your reel i.e. if your reel retrieves from right to left you must spool the new line (off the spool) from left to right and leave approx. 1/8'' from the top of the line to the top of the reel spool. i'm 73 y.o. and have been using spinning reels and bait casting reels well over 60 years. i'm no expert, but i rarely have a twist/loop problem. this will eliminate 95% of twist/loop line. btw, i also stretch the new line.
