Tough decision but you could make more variety with Halibut.
I was born in Olympia Washington and have eaten Salmon every way imaginable and I love it but halibut milder flavor makes it better for making almost anything.
Halibut is my choice.
Yellow perch is one of the best tasting fish I’ve eaten though.
It’s slightly sweet almost like crab. Amazing!!

That’s great.
Enjoy that Halibut and Crab!
We’ll have to go out with him.
We went out with Todd Harrington last year in the River and got 1 Salmon.
We’re going to fish my boat in October

We have a home in Central California. A home on Tenmile Lake we finished in 2020 and a Vacation rental in Winchester Bay.
I’m originally from Olympia Washington and I just love the Oregon Coast.
We are currently 50/50 residents and retire in two years and will only be in the Bay Area in Oregon.
You’re right, We are so lucky and happy to have the property. We love the Winchester Bay fishing and track and report our catches.
Take care my friend.

Thank you. Last September we landed a Coho but it was native so it was released and we did well on crab near the Jetty on the North side but it was tricky pulling our pots so we’ve been crabbing the south side of the Umpqua close to the bar but not too close. Slack tide we’re doing ok. We had 4 crab licensed people but didn’t throw out all 12 pots
Too much clutter to haul them all.
We use Tuna heads from stockade market and we seem to do better than a lot of people. Crab might even be shut down now. We haven’t checked

Good Morning,
Does anyone have updates on Salmon in the lower Umpqua?
We went out 3 weeks ago.
We didn’t get any salmon but did get crab in Halfmoon bay.
9 traps 10 keepers. Still not huge but not bad.

Yes Sir,
Perch are good. There are some really nice bass here as well but all of the boats this week are making them tricky to catch

I have a vacation rental in Winchester Bay, 1 block from the Bay. The Cozy Crab cottage.
If you’re ever wanting to stay in the area, check it out. It has parking for a truck and trailer gated on the side and the fishing is awesome.

Thank you. I’m originally from Olympia Washington and we fished all over. Winchester Bay is nice weather. It’s windy “ Windy Bay” but when the fishing is hot
It’s great

Lots of boats on the lake for the 4th of July. The bass fishing was good before the boats but the catfish, trout and perch are still biting. The perch are so thick that it’s hard to keep them off of your hook.

The boats are moving in but I still haven’t heard any reports of salmon being caught in Winchester Bay. I was told yesterday that some have been caught on the Umpqua in Reedsport.
Does anyone have any updates?
We’re going crabbing tomorrow just inside of the bar then trolling near salmon harbor to see if we can get any salmon. It’s been really windy the last week so we didn’t go out. We saw lots of crab pots closer to the harbor

May your Father rest in peace. My Dad passed away two years ago and he loved fishing. I honored him with a bench on my dock that we fish off of.
I’m sorry for your loss.
