Good Morning,
Does anyone have updates on Salmon in the lower Umpqua?
We went out 3 weeks ago.
We didn’t get any salmon but did get crab in Halfmoon bay.
9 traps 10 keepers. Still not huge but not bad.

1 keeper per trap? So must of had 4 people on board ( with 10 traps deployed ) Dismal if you ask most. It’s not really the best crabbing time of year though so to be expected. If Salmon isn’t hot yet it may never get that HOT this year. Salmon Seasons at sea were shut down this year so now we see it was a good idea.

Hopefully Crabbing and Salmon improve. Just figure how many people are targeting crab too. It amazing there is any by this time of year.

Months with R in them are best crabbing months. One can do pretty good still here and there though. If Salmon is closed at sea and slow in bays Crab is probably getting hit hard too.

Good Luck either way.

Thank you. Last September we landed a Coho but it was native so it was released and we did well on crab near the Jetty on the North side but it was tricky pulling our pots so we’ve been crabbing the south side of the Umpqua close to the bar but not too close. Slack tide we’re doing ok. We had 4 crab licensed people but didn’t throw out all 12 pots
Too much clutter to haul them all.
We use Tuna heads from stockade market and we seem to do better than a lot of people. Crab might even be shut down now. We haven’t checked

Be safe there. Hope you get them. I have a good buddy near you that is too busy building shop and house to fish. Another great buddy that came there a bunch. I love going to Up The Creek. It’s a really neat place there. If you’re lucky enough to live there you have got it made.

We have a home in Central California. A home on Tenmile Lake we finished in 2020 and a Vacation rental in Winchester Bay.
I’m originally from Olympia Washington and I just love the Oregon Coast.
We are currently 50/50 residents and retire in two years and will only be in the Bay Area in Oregon.
You’re right, We are so lucky and happy to have the property. We love the Winchester Bay fishing and track and report our catches.
Take care my friend.

Greetings Hartwa: on 7/11/23 we went out of Winchester with Capt. Ted Jones and d/h Tanner. After a 2 hour boat ride in nice seas we arrived on halibut grounds. We boated 3 buts and lost 3…we took home almost 50 lbs of filets! Next we motored back to the crab pots which were set out from Half Moon Bay in the main ocean. Three of us each took home a limit of crabs. Capt. Ted is so confident in his crabbing prowess that he will not charge you ($50) if you do not limit out.😎🦀 Check him out at Northwest Oregon Outfitters….photos attached.

Awesome. I went in May. Cole Abraham…Tim’s son. We hooked Halibut. Skate and Ling. We went to several places. About 52 miles out was final location. It’s out of this world good. Just cooked some of the Halibut for my family ( mom etc ) the best halibut was sprinkled with sea salt. Panfried with bacon on it and in pan. Beyond tasty.

That’s great.
Enjoy that Halibut and Crab!
We’ll have to go out with him.
We went out with Todd Harrington last year in the River and got 1 Salmon.
We’re going to fish my boat in October
