Been scouting lakes looking for crappie & haven't had much luck. Oh! I did catch a cold on one of my scouting trips! LOL! Other than that, I was DEAD IN THE WATER, no pun intended... help a sista out yall!!!

Have heard Black Lake in Olympia has a healthy Crappie population. I have not focused on Crappie and only trolled for trout the couple times I was there for July family picnics. Might be worth some research.

This was an interesting year for me. Started with my last 3 months working, and ending with my first 9 months of retirement. The first 6 months of retirement were great fishing, the last 3, not so much. I also didn't get to try many new places because I spent a lot of time at McDonough. I wanted to get my money's worth from the new $120 season pass. It was awesome being able to fish 95% on weekdays, avoiding the crowds. I managed to improve some PBs, and even caught my first Walleye. Hopefully I can continue in 2023. Here's to a Happy, Healthy, and Successful New Year to all of the wonderful fisherpeople on the Stage!

Sounds like retirement is agreeing with you. Since retirement I've been busier than when I worked full time. Great variety of catches this year. Wish you many more and much bigger. Cheers!

I believe you are probably right. It has been a few years since that trip and I stand corrected old eyes.

Very cool, Bb, thanks, for sharing. We hit a whale once while we were on a ferry on the Alaska Marine Hwy. It was a big bumb, and the whale came belly up. I don't know if it died or not. Sad!

That is sad. I’ve taken the Alaska ferry up the passage from Bellingham to Juneau. What a great trip!

Chartered a tuna trip out of Puerto Angel, Oaxaca, Mexico in 2007. I went out solo with 2 locals in an 18' panga. It got a little bit rough and the tuna were nowhere to be had. We did come upon a pod of Gray whales and followed them for a bit. I have seen whales before in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, but never this close. Truly amazing animals. I have to say though their "breath" is quite fishy. Took the sting out of the tuna skunk and we did pickup some snapper on the way in. Enjoy and don't get seasick.

Hey welcome to the site. I fish the chehalis alot and knocked the silvers dead after the kings dissipated a lil. Got pretty tired of releasing them. I am seeing bigger kings now than I have in previous years. I travel down from Puyallup a few times by myself when buddies can't make it. If your willing to meet their and pitch in for boat gas if we have to chase the fish down I would invite you next time I have space in boat

Nice fish Springer. I'm in Puyallup also and always looking for new waters and new fishing companions. Wife's a good sport but its getting harder and harder to get her on the boat any longer than half a day.

I'm from westport wa. And I'm a fishing freak always looking for someone to fish with I don't have many friends that like to fish like I do

Hey, been wanting to fish your area for a while. I did launch on Chehalis River at Montesano and boated down to bay but it was off season. We drifted bait for Sturgeon which we would have had to release. Hoping to fish the bay and tributaries next season there. Not comfortable going over the bar in my boat but I have buddies with suitable vessels for that. I'm in Puyallup area.

I was fishing with a friend of mine, on his boat. I caught a keeper Halibut, that we bled out and kept in his live well until we got back to the launch.

When he got home, he cleaned up the boat as usual, but decided to let it air dry in the clear San Diego evening rather than putting his cover on the boat.

The following morning he was greeted by the mess in the attached picture. Apparently a raccoon got the scent of the fish that had been in the live well, and tried to get to it by eating his way into the live well.

I keep my boat in an RV lot near my house. And although I cover when I park it, a determined ‘coon could get under the cover. I bought a 2x4 to prop open the live well. So, hopefully if a raccoon shows up he will be able to access the empty fish well without trying to chew his was into it.

Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone have any proven methods to keep destructive critters out of your boat?

Had mice or rats get in my boat last winter (In a shed but no cover) They chewed into a plastic bait scent bottle, the side mesh and pulls on a couple soft tackle boxes, and a sun screen tube. Little bahstuds! Also found a way through a small hole in my aux battery box on my class C RV. Chewed a little on the battery cable. Come to find out some battery cables and wiring sheath are made with peanut oil. Fortunately the boat wiring was spared.
This winter all my tackle boxes are stored in hard sided totes outside of boat. Baits and scents are stored in hard tackle boxes. Purchased rodent repellent spray for undercarriage of RV and inside boat and motor cavity. Also repellent discs for under hood of RV. Am spraying perimeter of shed and RV storage area. Basically declared war!

I too have had a dog most of my life. All have their own quirks and personalities. Had to put my 11 y.o. blue heeler Sprinkles down due to kidney failure on August 19th. Rescued Lady, a 2 y.o. 40# golden mix from an Az reservation on Oct 27th.. At 78 hope she outlasts me but if not the tears will flow again. Still get lots of love and devotion. Worth it all.

Yes, the bittersweet that comes with owning a dog. Or should I say the dog owning the person. All they know is love and devotion. For that I'm a little jealous. We of course know the end result.
