I prefer wheat and nuts, in the form of toast, with Jimmy Dean sausage and fried eggs (over easy)! And if I’m lucky, some hash browns extra crispy😂

I just want to chime in and offer my big “ditto” to each and everyone on the stage, including “Mr(or Mrs)Admin😁
My wife turned me on to this site and I love it! The regular posters, continuous running commentary, are awesome, and you all know who you are! It has been reasonably mild temperature wise, highs reach the lower 40’s lately and we are looking for more of the same for the next ten days. Doesn’t make ice very fast like that. We need some good ice before the snow flys!
But for our area, we need snow/precipitation as our lake is down 20” from the norm. It won’t be long before the 30ft Ice Castles get pulled out there! Let’s see….50-70K for the truck and 20-40K for the “fish house”….. maybe not rush it!!!

I’ve heard the lakes froze over up in Minnesota about week and half ago, just wondering if anyone has Braved it yet.

Lake Mary, Douglas County, Minnesota. There are a few brave souls that have ventured out pulling their sleds/flip overs. I haven’t gone out to check the thickness in our bay, but I’m guessing about 4”. The big lake just froze over last weekend. Wife and I will wait for 6-8” before we go out. It isn’t worth one’s life to catch a few crappies and gills

Hi all! Just getting back into fishing after a long hiatus. My fish of choice is bass. I live in Eden Prairie, MN and am eager for tips and Hotspots. Just picked up a boat, so I am eager ro wet a line! Thank you for having me!!

AJ, having lived in Prior Lake for many years, all I can suggest is head south! Not so much about bass, but fishing in general! Fish Lake, Cedar Lake, Carls Lake, Spring Lake, and of course Prior. They all have produced good results on Walleye, Crappie, and perhaps bass. Worth your while to check with local bait shops, and have conversations at the boat landings! Best of luck! Post some pics!

I’m new to the group and relatively new to fishing. I did a lot of bobber fishing for sun fish as a kid. Just recently started walleye fishing

You are located in and near some great walleye fishing! Although I’ve never fished Rainey, I’ve heard tons of stories from friends that have! The folks on this site are awesome and can give you good information. The Stagers come from all over the US. Their stories, (and fish tales) are great! There is even a segment for non-fishing stuff! Follow along for the ride, post pictures when you can! Enjoy and Welcome!

Bunch of interesting walleye-spawn factoids.
From this Max Loesche write-up on his Strike and Catch site:

> Walleye will spawn in water temps above 40 and up to 50°F.

> As soon as the water temperature is nearing 40°F, which is usually just after the ice has disappeared in the northern regions of the North American continent, the fish will gather in big schools and start their migration toward their spawning grounds.

>Spawning activity will commence at a water temperature of about 44-46°F and peak at around 50°F.
Fantastic information there Fly!! Now we have over 2 ft of ice to be rid of! Water temps approximately 34*. Opener in 5 weeks! Better restring the reels and grease the landing net! I’ll be ready!
> Walleye either spawn in smaller lake or river tributaries or shallow lake areas with depths of 1' to 10'.

> If they spawn directly in a lake, the shallows they tend to seek out are usually close to the shoreline and exposed to winds, as the moving water will cleanse the area from fine sediment that could harm the eggs.

> ...windswept shallows will hold more oxygen, which is needed for the eggs to survive.

> The preferred bottom features for spawning walleye include rock and gravel, as the eggs will have an easier time attaching themselves to such bottom structures.

> Furthermore, the shallow areas the walleye will use for spawning in lakes will almost always be closely located to considerably deeper water.

> The smaller males arrive at the spawning ground much earlier than the bigger females, who prefer to remain in the deeper water adjacent to the shallows.

> Walleye are broadcast spawners, which means that they will scatter their eggs across the bottom instead of building protective nests for them.

> That is why they choose bottom features such as gravel or rocks so that the eggs can attach themselves to the structure or fall into crevices, where they will remain protected until they hatch.

> On average, a female produces a staggering 27K eggs per pound. Egg production generally ranges from 12-55K eggs per pound. Amazingly, that means that a trophy-sized walleye of 10+ lbs has the capacity to produce and store over 500K eggs in her body.

> Most of them have reported an additional weight of about 10-25% in pre-spawn fish, compared to egg-free post-spawn ones. ...bigger females with more eggs will be closer to that 25% mark, while smaller fish will be closer to a 10% weight increase....

> This would imply that a 5-lb walleye could gain roughly 0.5 lbs before the spawn. A 10-lb fish could gain 1 to 1.5 lbs, and a 15-lber could gain close to 4 lbs before it spawns.

Go get them, guys! 🎣🐟🦈

Head into Minnesota! The land of 10,000 lakes! Seriously, tons of lakes between you and Alexandria! Douglas county has nearly 300 lakes alone. There’s Detroit Lakes area, Brainerd lakes area! The ice season is about done but spring is just around the corner! Seek and you shall find! Good Luck!

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions about a smoker. I think I've made a decision. After much, probably too much online research and back and forth I like the sound of the Cuisinart COS-330 electric smoker. From the descriptions it sounds identical to a Masterbuilt model in size and features but $20 cheaper at $200. The topper for me was the Cuisinart description states 100*-400*. In no description or review did I find the temp range for the Masterbuilt. Even tho both have 1500 watt heating elements that doesn't mean same temp range. I saw others with 1500 watts that top out at 250-275*.

Fingers crossed.

It will be a birthday present for me but that's not til June. To pass the time I can start looking at recipes.
