ONE FOR HISTORY BUFFS THAT I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW.

In 1975, President Ford was left to manage the difficult ending of the Vietnam War. President Ford went to Congress for a relief package to allow American personnel and our allies to evacuate. However, there was ONE US SENATOR who opposed any such support. The result was the embarrassing and hurried evacuation from the roof of the American embassy in Saigon.

This senator reveled in the embarrassment and did everything he could to leverage it politically against Ford. Despite the efforts of this U.S. Senator--President Ford managed to rescue 1,500 South Vietnamese allies prior to the country's fall. Had President Ford not acted quickly, these people would have been targeted and slaughtered for their support of America. When they arrived in America, President Ford asked Congress for a package to assist these refugees in integrating into American society.

That SAME troublesome SENATOR TORPEDOED ANY SUPPORT for these shell-shocked, anti-c*******t, Americans and our helpers, the refugees.


Instead, President Ford had to recruit Christian organizations to offer assistance on a voluntary basis. As he did so, the Senator belittled those efforts. What kind of person would oppose President Ford's tireless work to do the right and humanitarian thing? Who would want to play politics with the well-being of innocent people who stood by America in the tragic Vietnam War?

Fellow Patriots, on this day in 1780, Benedict Arnold betrayed the Patriot cause by giving the British information to help capture the American fort at West Point. For his trouble, Arnold narrowly escaped, died a scorned man in England, and made his name synonymous with being a t*****r. Today's Democrats carry on the "proud" tradition of benefiting immensely from America while working feverishly against it. —Mark Alexander

On their way to get married, a young Catholic couple was involved in a fatal car accident.

On their way to Heaven, they found themselves sitting outside the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter to process them into Heaven.

While waiting they began to wonder; could they possibly get married in Heaven?

When St. Peter arrived, they asked him if they could get married in Heaven.

St. Peter said, "I don't know. This is the first time anyone has asked. Let me go find out," and he left.

The couple sat and waited for an answer... for a couple of months.

While they waited, they discussed the pros and cons. If they were allowed to get married in Heaven, should they get married, what with the eternal aspect of it all?

"What if it doesn't work? Are we stuck in Heaven together forever?"

Yet another month passed before St. Peter finally returned, looking somewhat bedraggled.

"Yes," he informed the couple, "You can get married in Heaven."

"Great!" said the couple.

"But we were just wondering; what if things don't work out? Could we also get a divorce in Heaven?"

St. Peter, red-faced with anger, slammed his clipboard on the ground.

"What's wrong?" asked the frightened couple.

"OH, COME ON!" St. Peter shouted.

"It took me 3 months to find a priest up here! Do you have ANY idea how long it'll take to find a lawyer?!

Fellow Patriots, on this day in 1863, the Confederates prevailed in the Battle of Chickamauga, but as Union casualties poured into nearby Chattanooga, Mary Edwards Walker was there to tend their wounds. Her years as a war medic were followed by her capture in 1864 and release four months later. After the war, she became the first and only female recipient of the Medal of Honor. I profile another recipient, William Carney, the first black man to earn the Medal, in today's edition. —Mark Alexander
