Very cool. How far is it from "The Freezer" to where you were catching those trout? Whenever I go down by Tamp, I make a point of going to The Freezer for a beer and a pile of shrimp. Very nice area. Better now that I know you can get trout like that nearby.
JS, I can see the "Freezer" from my back deck. It's about a 3-4 mile boat ride to the mouth of the river. Find yourself an oyster bar near the grass flats and start casting. So much water, so little time! Be careful, it gets shallow in spots!
Like to hear from people who fish the nature coast backcountry
Just learning to this winter. Starting to figure out redfish. So much to learn what with the tides, weather fronts, different species and such. I had something nearly rip the rod out of my hand last week while reeling in a swim bait. Broke off dammit! I didn't get to see what it was.
When I come home from a day out in the rivers and gulf I start by flushing my outboard. While that's running with the muffs on with one hose I get in the boat and start at the front and hose the interior of the boat working my way to the back. I hose off my poles and reels. Problem is that the reels are starting to squeel and show signs of corrosion. What should I be using to clean and lubricate my equipment?
Boat is a carolina skiff 218 dlv. I bought it to take down to our winter place in Homosassa, FL. I'm now learning to catch redfish, trout, snapper etc. Lots to learn down here.
Nice catfish that fought like a cinder block in strong current! This is lake Erie off the mouth of the Buffalo River in June. I didn't have a scale but would estimate it around 25 lbs.? Catfish hunter should like this.
Thanks Catfish. I did hire a guide my first time out here and caught a few in poor conditions. There are so many different fish and variables here between the inshore, offshore, tide, seasons etc. So much to learn! The guides in our area are ALL $350 for four hours. Non negotiable. A little too rich for my fixed income! BTW, I did catch a limit of mangrove snapper this morning! Gonna go throw a few lures for Snook in the river Friday morning.
I'm new to the area (Homosassa, FL). I have my own boat and want to learn how to fish the area. Homosassa to Steinhatchee. Youtube videos make it look easy but when you get out there it's another story!
