Fishing offshore Louisiana for tuna and other game fish you have to use non stainless steel circle hooks so they will dissolve and the circle hook will hook up in the side of the jaw and not gut hooked.
Better hope crazy Joe doesn't get elected, we might see our Social Security checks disappear.
That cat had two kittens in the area and she was protecting her area. No reason for a high powered rifle.
He did right backing away and have the fortitude to film the bluff attack. He was the trespasser.
We find hundreds of them in south Texas, Remember there was no TV back then so the Indians while sitting around the fire would knapping flint just like modern day outdoors men who sit around and tie flies, reload bullets, re-rig fishing rods etc. Many of the ones I have found are misformed, a broken point or uneven sides. I you found an old camp fire you were sure to find points (arrowheads) in the area. After a good rain we would search the low parts of the roads for points that got washed up.
We fish "shad rigs" down here and don't have any trouble with tangles. It's usually two lead head jigs
with soft plastics of different color. Start out about 3' of line then double your line and tie a figure 8 knot forming a loop, that loop will be where you will tie your main line. On one of the line tie on your jig. Then on the other tie the other jig about 6"-8" shorter. I've used this rig since the 50s. You probably can find it on Youtube. Good luck.
Go with the 7' rod. I have fished with Ugly Stix since they first come on the market. Have from 5' to 7' rods. I have a 5' rod that I have caught Bull reds (red drum) here in south Louisiana up to 35# with no trouble. Just takes a while to get them to the boat, but I'm not in a hurry. Yesterday I was catching perch off my dock fishing with worms using the 5' rod. I do have 18# power pro on a good reel. The weight isn't noticed between the Ugly Stix and my expensive rods.
A good fisherman can catch fish with a stick with a string and hook. Presentation is the most important part of catching fish. All the sporting goods stores with their row after row of beautiful rods and reels will catch more fishermen than fish. So get the 7' rod and put a quality reel on and spool good line on, not the spool of 500 yards for $4.99. And go fishing and remember it's fishing not catching. Tight lines.
Years ago a friend and I were fishing a little bayou here in South Louisiana and catching some real nice perch (any pan fish down here) and green trout (large mouth bass). The mosquitoes and gnats started to take all of our blood. I had just bought a bug suit and put it on. Doug said that looks stupid how are you going to drink your beer. No Problem, right through the mesh. A few minutes later he asked where I got it and how much did it cost. Told him it came from Cabela's and it was about $40. Soon he threw the rest of his worms overboard and offered me $200 for it and started the motor. Next trip he has a bug suit. Every time I put it on I think of Doug who passed away a few years ago while putting out his decoys.
I drink Bud light and years ago a friend told me that drinking light beer was like making love in a canoe.
F***ing close to water.
A few mistakes. Fishing alone offshore, not having the cutoff lanyard attached to his person and not wearing a PFD. I think he should have been billed for the rescue.
Should brush the East side of the state. Now it keeps moving more East so Mississippi is the main target right now. It increased to a Cat 2 now.
But the fishing will be great once Sally passes.
I still use Mitchell Garcia equipment I bought in the '60s. My uncle worked on Guam and sent me a Mitchell 300 for Christmas in the late '50s. They weren't sold in any stores in the New Orleans area yet. Still use it a few times a year. I have put new guides on the rods years ago and replaced drag disks on the reel. I have a locker full of newer gear. Better gear? Lighter and more sensitive, yes. Catch more fish? Is expensive gear the secret to catching fish or is it who is on the other end of the gear? As soon as this hurricane, Sally, passes, the bite should be on in South Louisiana.
Spirit, with that menu I would think you were from near me here in South Louisiana.
They weren't trying to hit the shark, just scare it away.
