Took a break from lake fishing this past weekend to try my hand at fly fishing for trout.

Arrived to temperatures in western PA Thursday, late afternoon, struggling to hold 50 with a brisk cold wind out of NW.

Overnight, I witnessed a little popcorn snow.

Set out on a creek a little after sunrise on Friday looking for trout. Caught this one after seeing plenty who told me it was too cold to eat!

That’s a nice looking chopper!

Back in the 70’s, I used to fish the Navesink, Shrewsury rivers as well as Sandy Hook bay and down the coast towards Point Pleasant.

More than once we would hit schools of the big ones! Lots of fun!

Nah!

Just one of the most decorated soldiers of WWI and also possibly bagged the biggest deer in Bucks County PA over 100 years ago.

Also, a gentleman I respected all of my life!

I can outshoot my wife, but my daughters nickname is “Annie Oakley”. She takes after my grandfather!

God Bless

This morning I landed this nice 2.5 pounder on a Zara Spook.

Also landed a couple of other much smaller large mouth bass, 1 small mouth and a pumpkinseed brim.

Fun morning on the water.

I finally convinced my wife to join me fishing on SML! Weather was superb!

As we got a late morning start, the earlier morning bite had started to wane.

Nonetheless, she bested me on her first time out on SML.

Might have been small, but it was still fun to watch her face light up with the catch!

Job well done!

That would have been fun to watch, especially as the plane lifted off over the point and eventually over Smith Mountain.

Fishing on lake was challenging. Bite was slow. Labor Day traffic picking up early.

Caught a couple of largemouth. This one was a fish with attitude! As I attempted to lip it, it shook off my thumb.

It appeared to be calm as I picked it up around girth, then he let me know otherwise as he got his “DeMille” moment!

Happy Labor Day and tight lines!

Fishing wasn’t as good as yesterday.

Two hand sized largies, but look what I caught on video!

Fished a few hours this morning and landed 5 largemouth bass. Went out for a couple of hours this evening and found another 3.

A ton of bites that I missed!

All were safely released.

The weather is perfect with unusually low humidity for this time of year!

Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

April 30, my wife landed the first drum. She followed with boating a second, already tagged, drum. However, I did land the biggest at 14.5 lbs. Based on its fresh tail bite, it was probably happy to get away from the dolphin chasing/biting him!

All fish were returned unharmed.
