Welcome
Check out Guy Jeans fly fishing shop in Kernville. Even if you don't fly fish he has the latest information on the local stream and Lake Isebella conditions. There is also the store next to, I believe, the Mobil gas station. It is on the main road leading to and parallel to the Kern River.
I have heard that the fishing has been good.
Good Luck

Sadly we have lost Jimmy Buffet. My personal favorite of all time being a proud Parrot Head! If you never made it to one of his concerts, you missed something in life IMO. Met him a few times, shared a beer with him and maybe a shot of Cuervo, hard to remember those days. Rest in peace my friend!

This is very sad news. I never saw him live but loved his music!

Gotaway1,
You are welcome.
Re: the double fluke, note it requires 5-knots, not the kind of rig you want to tie on in a boat or from shoreline. Either have two poles rigged with this presentation or at least pre-tie a spare of both long and short lines, leaving you with just the last knot to tie.
I'll never forget the first time I saw this presentation. I was on shore at Dixon and this guy in a rental boat came into the cove (Whisker Bay) throwing the rig onto the top of weeds walking it along the weeds which were at the surface at the time. He twitched it on top of the weeds (it's totally weedless), came to the weed edge and started working the best presentation I've ever seen. Important to know, when you work this lure, your rod tip is way down next to the water and all your twitches are sideways; never up or down like a typical jig. On each twitch, the flukes zig-zag like you wouldn't believe. I would bite it.

Bump up your weight if heavy surf moves it towards you…maybe one or two oz pyramid sinkers.

Depends on surf and current. I usually use 1 to 2 oz. pyramid or disc. sinkers. Gear plays a role also. Bigger heavier gear equals bigger heavier weights.

Thank You !
What size of weight are you using. In So Cal waters I use 1/2 oz.
Do you bump up in weight in Nor Cal ?

Morning All
I will be camping at Morro Bay, CA state campground from Sunday to Thursday (05/07-11/23). It has been over 30 years since I have been to that area. I was wondering if anyone has any information on the surf fishing ? I'm just doing the light gear fishing mainly targeting surf perch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi All,

First post here, but been appreciating all of the info that you all post every day - This is a fantastic forum!

We are headed to Mammoth Lakes area in California this summer (in July) and will be very close to Mammoth Creek. I plan on fishing the creek and will likely make it out to a Lake or two as well. If anyone has tips on what you have used (bait / lures and rig) for trout in the creeks of this region in the summer, it would be greatly appreciated!

ps, I don't have a fly fishing rod so hoping there are other options that have been productive.

Thanks!

Hello Sud
Mammoth Creek is a fun creek to fish. I have had good luck drifting Samon eggs downstream with no weight.
This year you might need to add a little because the water will probably be a lot higher than the last few years.
If you are staying in Mammoth Lakes stop in at the Troutfitters or Ricks.

Good luck and enjoy.

The Legend of the King and the Fisherman

After the palace meteorologist assured them there was no chance of rain, the King and the Queen went fishing.

On the way, they met a man with a fishing pole riding on a donkey, and they asked the man if the fish were biting. The fisherman said, "Your Majesties, you should return to the palace. In just a short time I expect a huge rainstorm."

The King replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an educated and experienced professional. Besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him." So, the King continued on his way.

However, in a short time, torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked. Furious, the King returned to the palace and gave the order to execute the meteorologist.

Then he summoned the fisherman and offered him the prestigious position of royal forecaster.

The fisherman said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."

So, the King hired the donkey.

And so began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in influential positions of government.

The practice continues to this day.
