Hello fellow anglers!

My name is Gary and I am new to the Fishing Stage. I will really appreciate any and all current/up-to-date fishing information specifically on the following Southern California lakes: Perris (Riverside County), Wohlford (San Diego County) and Castaic (Los Angeles County). Thank you in advance for any effort given.

Welcome Gary, can help you out a little. Fished Perris yesterday and it was very slow. There is a algae bloom on most of the lake, fishable but messy. We caught 5 fish with largest being 3lbs, others were dinks. Right now it is top water baits around the trees and drop shot around the rock piles. Might want to wait a little while before fishing this lake.

If you come to SD North County, I pick Lake Dixon over Wohlford as a bass fisherman. Two different bodies of water depending on what you like. Wohlford tannic and pretty dark. Rock piles are the breaks on structure. I like to throw black or crawdad jig and pigs. Plan on losing a few. I'm way more familiar with Dixon. Clear to 25+ feet. Weeds. Any plastic presentation, swimbaits and maybe hard-bodied minnow imitations, not to mention my all time late season favorite, the double fluke. Drawing attached. Though admittedly over 2-decades, I've caught 3-10 pounders from the (north) shore, all on the double fluke.
On either of these lakes, if you're throwing a Senko with an EWG hook, never add any weight. If you're drop-shotting, wacky rig your plastic.
SD North County has been in post-spawn for a while after a pretty atypical spring weather pattern.
Not sure if this helped much, hope there was something in there for you.

Thank you for your response sawheeler52. My main interest in Wohlford is for the crappie, so the rock pile structure you reported should be no problem. As for Dixon, I will most definitely be fishing the North Shore for bass using the Double Fluke rig. Thanks for attaching the diagram. Really appreciate the info!

Gotaway1,
You are welcome.
Re: the double fluke, note it requires 5-knots, not the kind of rig you want to tie on in a boat or from shoreline. Either have two poles rigged with this presentation or at least pre-tie a spare of both long and short lines, leaving you with just the last knot to tie.
I'll never forget the first time I saw this presentation. I was on shore at Dixon and this guy in a rental boat came into the cove (Whisker Bay) throwing the rig onto the top of weeds walking it along the weeds which were at the surface at the time. He twitched it on top of the weeds (it's totally weedless), came to the weed edge and started working the best presentation I've ever seen. Important to know, when you work this lure, your rod tip is way down next to the water and all your twitches are sideways; never up or down like a typical jig. On each twitch, the flukes zig-zag like you wouldn't believe. I would bite it.

TimFly,
You also are welcome.
Ya know when the guy in the boat came to my shoreline spot to show me his rig, he swore me to secrecy. Obviously I just couldn't do it.
A last couple points on the double fluke:
1. my long-line measurement may be a bit long.
2. the important point is that the 2-flukes should never be too close together.
3. throw this baby into or on top of the thickest weeds you can find. That's where the bass are. It comes right through the weeds and any lanes between them. From my experience, most fisherman avoid such heavy vegetation.
4. To remain essentially weedless, it is important to use swivels no larger than the #8 I recommend. Larger than that will accumulate some weeds.
Tight lines all.
