I have always heard green pumpkin is a steady go to . Myself I like a blue metal flake Yamamoto Senko worm rigged wacky style ( with or without weed gard ) but I have heard some guys just don't seem to do so well with the weed guard. Most of your bites will come on the descent. Give him plenty time to eat it and then set the hook to rip his jaw out--figure of speech !

Yes you could use that setup with a jig. Juest make sure to keep the weight of the jig light as 1/2 ounce or less. Also to keep from getting grassed up don't cast very far and try your best to keep it just off the bottom. Best to make small jerks while retrieving it. Keep it moving. You will find most of your strikes will come when teh jig is headed for the bottom. Good Luck

When I was a young buck I made what you might call a reverse periscope out of old stovepipe. I installed a mirror at the 90 degree point so I could look down. Where you looked into the tube you had to have a black, stick your head into, covering to shield out any light to effectively see the bottom. This worked even better at night when you shined a flashlight into the water surface. You could see weed beds quite easily along with fish. You could fashion one out of black PVC which would be smaller and more easily handled especially on a float tube. Trick is to shut out all light when looking into the tube. Easy to make and trouble free as its not electronic and affected by water or humidity. Good Luck catchin

In Florida now. In NJ I used them a lot. I would hold the worm in one hand and the hook in the other. I'd wait for the mouth to open with the fangs and insert the hook then. This way all the natural juices were dispersed in the water where the fish could smell it rather than waste in onshore. With the blood worm you could see the blood rush toward the head and knew about when the head would open

Several years ago I was fishing the Withlacoochee river about 1/3 mile downstream from highway 200. I saw in the middle of the river a redish orange fish I estimate to be about 2 feet long. I motioned to a friend ( from the Miami area ) to look at that fish. About this time the fish decided it wanted to be elsewhere and disappeared. I told him I thought it might be a peacock bass but he said the water here was too cold and they didn't come this far north. Theres plenty largemouth here too if you want to give it a try.
