The fish in our lake have “Whopper Appetites” and will try to eat anything. Just look at size of the fish on front that treble hook.
You could have made enough for everyone.
Fishing with grandkids just doesn't get much better!! I do it every chance I get.
The Y-Bone goes into the back strap. You have to know how to filet it out.
Nice fish. You'll find these are frequently easier to find than most other fish and makes for a great day of fishing and eating. Personally, I prefer the pike over the walleye. It takes a little learning how to fillet out the Y-bones, but once you've mastered it, you've got great eating boneless fish to eat. It freezes well also, but be sure to remove fatty flesh you find around the fin areas. I find it is the fat that taints the frozen meat. I use a vacuum sealer and it easily keeps 6-8 months. 12 months is starting to push it, but i have done it on several occasions.
I’ve not had the opportunity to eat Gar, but have watched a lot of programs showing the catching and preparation. I’m looking forward to eating it some day. It looks like good to me. Some people seem to draw an aversion to eating what they call an ugly or odd looking fish. Yet they rave over fish they haven’t seen a photo of like the “ Patagonian toothfish” other wise known as “Chilean Seabass” to make it restaurant worthy.
Ugh? Funny you should say that. I had quests over for dinner the other night and offered a choice of Walleyes or Northern Pike. They all chose Walleye and stated the didn’t care for the Northern. I made both and the were devouring the Northern. The said they never realized how delicious it was, only reacted to what the had been told.
If you've seen one, you've seen them all.
My wife and I went out on the lake at 4:15 p.m.
By 5 p.m we'd caught 6 Northern Pike all about 28 inches or more except one.
If you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Saved one for tomorrows supper.
Weather for July has been the lousiest I've seen in years, but still catching a few.
Weather not cooperating but we've had a lots of fund. Got a few days of water skiing in and she played golf most days. Wonderful memories for years to come.
Did you get a measurement on length or weight?

Brook trout, not brown. Always my favorite to catch! Looks like they survived the flooding.
(He jumped out of the net and onto the rocks so I had to pick him up.)
Great eating, just need a few more.
Good thinking on getting educated first. Check for local fishing clubs, people with boats in the driveway. Local boat marina or dealerships may also be a place to seek advice. Ask some questions to insure the person(s) you select are knowledgeable to begin with.
Return to “WORK”?
How you going to do any fishing if your at work all day.
In years past found using “Ford Fenders” with a bit of a worm on a hook 12-28 inches behind the flashers extremely successful while rowing the boat very slowly.
