Nymphs and midges below a terrestrial. Best to check with the Orvis endorsed fly shop in Montrose for more accurate information. Hope this helps.
My wife and I fished Tannycomo today with a guided float trip. Temperature has been in the middle 90's for the last week and the water being released from Table rock is very low in O2 as the lake has not yet turned over. Not ideal conditions for trout fishing. We saw quite a few fish and caught about 12 ,14-16 inches on flies . Cooler temps later in the week should improve fishing. Saw others catching fish from boats as well. Don't know about the wader's
If you want a guided fly trip I would recommend Carolyn at River run outfitters. She and her husband own the shop. She is an Orvis qualified fly fishing instructor and guide. Even if you are not a fly fisherman I think she may be able to give you suggestions on lures and locations on the river to fish. Tell her Mark and Lynn referred you .
I assume you are using a 4 or 5wt setup. Wooley buggers and leeches in size 8 or smaller will throw fine. Larger flies will not work well with these rods.
Fish feed the vast majority of the time on or near the bottom of the stream. I would suggest obtaining a selection of nymphs , pheasant tail nymph, hares ear nymph, zebra midges etc. In sizes 16,18 and 20.
Google , top ten flies for trout fishing; from there you will get a bunch of other related videos . Concentrate on nymphs and emergers. There are also many great videos available on line to teach you how to rig for different fishing techniques and how to fish them.
When you arrive at a new area to fish ,seek out the local fly shop to find out what's happening on the water. Buy a few of their recommendations. Can't go wrong doing that and you can build your fly box with flies that work.
Hope this is helpful information.
Well, give it a whirl and see what happens!
Jim thank you for your suggestions. We will try Willow Springs and Bear Canyon. Do you know if Woods canyon is open yet?
Thanks for the reservation suggestion. We will be back in AZ in October and will be in Show Low for two weeks . We are familiar with the fishing there. At this time we are interested in the Payson area .
Check the YouTube channel Euronymphing with George Daniel. This explains euro nymphing very well. This is only one of many videos available on the subject.

It's that time again. After spending the fall and winter in Mesa az ,we are spending the next 2weeks in Payson before continuing on our summer adventure. I know there's at least one person on the stage here in Payson. I would like to know of any suggestions for fishing the area. My wife and I fly fish as well as spin fish . Thanks in advance.
Mark
Consult YouTube. Euro nymphing rods a set ups
I will have to try soaking my nymphs in these recipes. You just never know what can happen. I plan to go fly fish the Salt River in AZ. in the next couple weeks, mostly stockers. I will post the results of my study .
Maybe I will tie a "cockroach" fly and see if I can get any interest from a trout. I think it may work similar to an ant.
Hey, my family's coat of arms is just like that !! Maybe we are related.
Hi, you need to be a bit more specific, so. Utah covers a lot of territory.
RJ sorry about your possible exposure to Covid. My wife and I have been on the Ivermectin protocols for 6 months. We also take Zinc, tumeric and D-3 as well as a multivitamin. We are both healthy and take no medications.
We did contract Covid in November . Our Naturopath physician had us double up on the ivermectin for a week. We were both laid up for about 5 days. Signs were fatigue and muscle pain minimal cough.I have felt worse with the flu. We now have the t-cells for immunity.
The one positive with getting Covid was that I had time to tie some trout flies for this spring.
I don't know if starting ivermectin at this point would help you. I would suggest that you find a physician familiar with the ivermectin therapy to determine if it would be beneficial for you.
